P.E. 103 – Fundamentals of Sports & Games
First Semester 2020- 2021

Vision
Romblon State University as a premier institution of higher education in the MIMAROPA region for a globally competitive Province of Romblon.

Romblon State University is committed to provide advance education, higher technological, professional instruction and training in agriculture and fishery, for science and technology,
education, arts, and other relevant fields of study. It shall promote research, extension, advanced studies and progressive leadership in its area of specialization.

Goals of Physical Education

Physical education shall contribute to the enhancement and harmonization of the physical, social, moral and intellectual development of the college students; and likewise, shall contribute
to the
revival and preservation of the Filipino cultural heritage in terms of indigenous games, sports, songs and dances as well as to the appreciation and protection of the natural environment and
its
ecological balance through espousal of outdoor and aquatic activities.

General Objectives:
To achieve its physical, mental, social, moral, cultural and ecological mission/goal, physical education shall pursue the following objectives:
1. Improve and maintain physical fitness.
2. Enhance critical thinking.
3. Further develop and refine skills in sports, dance and recreation.
4. Appreciate more skillful performance, good health and qualities of leadership.
5. Awaken a sense of nationalism and appreciation of one’s cultural heritage through the revival and preservation of indigenous games, dances and sports.
6. Develop awareness of the natural environment and the need for its protection and conservation through outdoor and aquatic activities.

V. Course Description: This course is intended to strengthen the student’s interest in sports. This includes basic skills, rules and equipment in
individual/dual sports and Team Sports (e.g. Badminton, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Batted Balls, Soccer, Futsal,
Track and Field, Korfball, Taekwondo and Dance Sports), with emphasis on the methods and strategies of playing the game and
the mechanics of officiating.
VI. Course Requirements:
- Examination (written & practicum)
- Participation
- Attendance
- Wearing of P.E. uniforms
- Projects
VII. Course/Class Policies:
1. Attendance is necessary to obtain maximum benefits from the instructions.
2. Students are to wait 30 minutes of the total scheduled time before leaving when the instructor is late.
3. No special exam will be given for those students who were absent during examination day. Except for EXCUSED absences, in which
case,
they must present a medical certification or excuse letter signed by their parents or guardians.
4. None wearing of complete uniform is considered no attendance, and shall not be allowed to take any examinations.
5. Any student caught in any form of cheating will automatically get a grade of 5.0 on that particular exam./activity.
6. Students who incurred more than 20% of the total number of class periods for the whole semester shall be automatically dropped from
the roll.

Written examinations - 30% (short % long quizzes)
Practicum - 40% (practical examination)
Attendance & participation - 20% (attendance & participation to all activities)
Project(s) - 10% (written output & others)

Methods of Computation
1. Percentile shall be used in recording grades when evaluating students using the formula.
Grade = (Score Obtained) (50) + 50

At the end of the semester, the students are expected to:


1. Understand the significance of sports in Physical Fitness development.
2. Name the different sports according to its classification.
3. Identify and explain the basic rules of the adopted sports activities.
4. Execute properly the basic skills in playing or performing the adopted sports.
5. Master the theories and mechanics of officiating the sports.
6. Appreciate the sports as they actually play or perform it.
