A. Using A Graphic Organizer, Give The Distinct Features of Three Approaches of Teaching Literature

The document describes three approaches to teaching literature: 1) Reader-response approach focuses on the reader's personal experiences and background knowledge to create meaning from the text. 2) Information-based approach is teacher-centered and provides students historical and cultural context about literary works. 3) Language-based approach helps reading comprehension through responses to texts and makes learning learner-centered. The language-based approach is best for lower grades as it focuses on simple works and teacher guidance. The reader-response approach is suitable for upper grades as it allows active participation and higher-order thinking. Five key activities in a literature lesson would be spelling tasks, drawings, skits, reaction papers, and graphic organizers.

B. In your understanding of the approaches to teaching children’s literature, which
of them are applicable to lower grades (Grades 1 – 1) and upper grades (to Grade 4 – 6).
Justify your answer.
--- I think that the language-based approach is applicable to lower grades in
teaching children’s literature because this will be their educational ways to improve their English
proficiency through simple literary works such as writing and reading at their young age.
Furthermore, this is applicable for them because it is more focuses on the literary texts wherein
Grade 1 to 3 pupils will get easy to understand it; therefore, it is good for them because there are
teachers guiding them to express their opinions and ideas towards the text that made them
conscious of the different words in the world of literature.
On the other hand, reader-response approach is also applicable to upper grades
because this is the time where the students give their response to a particular question. It is their
opportunity to actively participate in the classroom discussions wherein Grade 4 to 6 learners
will be get ready to give their opinion and ready to show their higher order thinking skills.

C. Combining all the approaches in teaching children’s literature, what five

activities or tasks would dominate every literary lesson (either story, poem, song, folk tale,
etc.). Explain why and how you would execute each in the reading class.

✓ SPELLING TASKS
- I am going to give words out from the song to my learners and will let them
going to spell a certain word. For I believe that this way would improve their
spelling and reading skills that develops their overall literacy.
✓ SIMPLE DRAWING
- I will going to let my learners draw some simple things that is included in the
folk tale by properly labelling them. This will help me as a teacher to balance
their cognitive and psychomotor skills.
✓ SHORT SKIT
- Students are going to make a short performance about the literary text or story
that they read in order for me as a teacher to see whether they truly understand or
not a certain lesson.
✓ SHORT REACTION PAPER
- Students are going to make a short reaction paper related to the poem that they
watch or read in order for me to identify whether my learners truly have the
insights of it or not.
✓ SIMPLE GRAPHIC ORGANIZER
- Students are going to make a simple story map in order for me to see if the
students are totally conscious about the given piece.
