Bhat-Bhateni started as a small 120 square foot cold storage facility in 1984 with an initial investment of NRs. 35,000. In 1989, a fire destroyed the store and it was rebuilt within a month. By 1994, it had expanded to three floors and 4,500 square feet, carrying approximately 30,000 products supported by 200 staff. Most recently in 2011, Bhat-Bhateni opened new locations in Koteshwor, Boudha, and Patan with a total space of 325,000 square feet, 135,000 customers on the first day and NRs. 1,500 million in total investment.
