UNIT- 12 PERIMETER, AREA AND VOLUME
EXERCISE: 12.1 (Pg. 97-99)
1. Find the perimeter of the rectangle whose lengths and breadths are given below:
b) Length = 21 m Breadth = 15 m c) Length = 110 cm Breadth = 80 cm
PERIMETER OF A RECTANGLE = 2 x (l + b)
Do yourself
= 2 x (21 m + 15 m)
= 2 x (36 m)
= 72 m
Ans: Perimeter of the Rectangle = 72 m.
2. Find the perimeter of the square whose side has length:
b) Side =12.5 m c) Side = 50 m
Perimeter of a square = 4 x l Do yourself
= 4 x 12.5 m
= 50.0 m
Ans: Perimeter of the square = 50 m
3. Find each side of the square if its perimeter is:
b) Perimeter = 10.8 cm c) Perimeter =160 cm
Side of a square = Perimeter ÷ 4 2.7 Do yourself
4 10.8
= 10.8 cm ÷ 4
= 2.7 cm
Ans: Side of the square = 2.7 cm.

5. Find the perimeter of the following Triangle:
b) XYZ in which; c) PQR in which PQ = 7.5 m,
XY =25 cm, YZ=19 cm and ZX= 30 cm QR=4.8 m RP= 6 m
Perimeter of a triangle = XY + YZ + ZX
= 25 cm + 19 cm + 30 cm
= 74 cm Do yourself
Ans: Perimeter of the Triangle = 74 cm.
QUES 6 AND 7 ====== TO BE DONE IN TEXTBOOK =====
SOLVE THE FOLLOWING :
2. Ajay covers a distance of 480 m when he completes one round of a square park.
What is the length of each side of the park? R.W
120
Perimeter of a square park = 480 m 4 480
Length of the side of the park = Perimeter ÷ 4
= 480 m ÷ 4
= 120 m
Answer: Length of each side of the park = 120 m
3. What would be the width of a rectangular sheet of paper whose length and
perimeter are respectively 22 cm and 76 cm.
Perimeter of a rectangular paper = 76 cm
Length of the paper = 22 cm
؞Width of the paper = (Perimeter ÷ 2) - L
= (76 cm ÷ 2) – 22 cm
= (38 cm) – 22 cm
= 16 cm
Answer: Width of the rectangular sheet of paper = 16 cm
5. Find the perimeter of an isosceles triangle, each of whose equal sides measure
6.2 cm and length of third side is 4.5 cm.
Two sides of an isosceles triangle = 6.2 cm each.
Third side of the triangle = 4.5 cm
؞Perimeter of the Triangle = sum of the three sides
= 6.2 cm + 6.2 cm + 4.5 cm
= 16.9 cm
Answer: Perimeter of the triangle = 16.9 cm
