Traffic Congestion
The problem that we face today that was also mentioned in chapter four of the text was
traffic congestion. As well know, traffic congestion is an everyday problem for those of us who
commute. Millions of people commute in the United States every day. Traffic jams have been
incorporated in to everyday life for many people. People leave their house early just because they
know they will be stuck in traffic. In the chapter there were many statistics given. For example,
people who are stuck in traffic spend half as much time as they do on vacation. This chapter also
mentioned many states which have subway systems and other public transportations.
In my opinion, public transportation and subway path trains are beneficial for us. Imagine
if there were no trains, or busses, or subways. It would be impossible to get from place to place.
The solution that was in this chapter was to improve on rapid transit systems. I agree, however I
feel that more can be done. Another solution to this issue can be, car pooling. By car pooling
there would be one less car on the road. One more solution could be to have more sensitive
streetlights. Some traffic jams inside suburban areas are due to traffic lights. If there are no cars
coming on the opposite end why should there be a traffic jam. Also to build on the solution the
book gave, a way to improve on the rapid transit system would be to make more path trains.
They should put more busses on the roads. There are many ways to improve on this issue.
Hopefully we can stop spending more time than needed in traffic.
