Calculating Pipe Wall Thickness Pipe Outside Dia. (O.D.)

To find the “Pipe Wall Thickness” for buttweld valves, subtract the Inside Diameter Size (in.) in. mm
from the “Pipe Outside Diameter” for the appropriate size, listed to the right. Then 2 2.375 60.33
divide the outcome by two (2). 3 3.500 88.90
4 4.500 114.30
EXAMPLE: For a 4" valve with a 3.826 Inside Diameter: 6 6.625 168.28
8 8.625 219.08
Outside Diameter 10 10.750 273.05
taken from the chart Inside Diameter 12 12.750 323.85
at right Given by Customer 14 14.000 355.60
16 16.000 406.40
18 18.000 457.20
20 20.000 508.00
4.500 – 3.826
= .337 24 24.000 609.60
2
Once you have determined the “Pipe Wall Thickness”, find that number in the chart
above. The two-digit number to the left should then be used in the “Pipe Wall
Thickness” digits of the valve Assembly Part Number. In this example that would be 30.
