Interprets information on grade stakes; clears, grubs, strips, excavates, backfills, ditches, stockpiles and
pushes scraper with tractor crawler; cuts and spread fills material with scraper; excavates, stockpiles,
backfills, and loads with loader; assigned as a Squad Leader with duties to include; responsible for
health, welfare and safety of over 10 soldiers; ensures soldiers meet standards in personal appearance;
maintain and account for their individual and unit equipment and property; teaches individual and
collective training, develops unit cohesion, fosters the values of loyalty and commitment and builds
spirit and confidence, evaluates training; coaches and counsels.
As Squad Leader, you are expected to meet or exceed the standards for:
1. Accomplishing organizational goals (maintain readiness to deploy and provide working, on-time
communications to units we support)
2. Demonstrating leader competencies and attributes appropriate for a Squad Leader; keep squad
members up to date on training, manage scheduling, meet section responsibilities, enforce fitness and
behavior standards (maintain HIGH level of personal physical fitness), supervise Soldiers in the
performance of their duties, counsel Soldiers on advancement and ensure the safety and welfare of all
members.
3. As Squad Leader, you are expected to set the example by demonstrating discipline, maintaining a
professional working environment, and observing and enforcing Army policies on sexual harassment in
the workplace.
4. Accept responsibility for mission and follow up with supported units to identify areas needing
improvement.
5. Delegate responsibly, not authority, to challenge junior Soldiers and develop future leaders.
6. Support the Commander's policies and the unit by participating in unit activities.
7. Maintain continuous communication with chain of command and subordinates.
8. Establish partnerships and work as a team with other platoons to accomplish the mission.
CHARACTER:

Be the expert as a engineer and equipment operator and set the example amongst your peers and
Soldiers;;

Lead others by setting the example of what an NCO is at all times;;
Assist junior leaders and Soldiers on proper and effective engineer operations; instill your
knowledge to them at all times;;
Build trust within your squad; extend your influence outside of your chain of command;
communicate clearly and never leave anyone uninformed;;

Servant leadership; selfless service to peers and Soldiers through mentorship and shared
knowledge;;
