SPECIMEN CHECK-LIST FOR

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE OF
DIESEL GENERATOR SETS

DAILY:

1. Check lubricating oil level

2. Check auxiliary terminal box connections

3. Check generator ventilation areas for obstruction

4. Check and note:

(a) Starting time


(b) All engine instruments are functioning
(c) All meters are functioning
(d) All indicators are operating correctly
(e) All switches are functioning
(f) Shut down time

5. Check radiator

6. Maintain a log book to record all instruments and meter readings taken every four
hours

WEEKLY:

1. Check water level in radiator

2. Check battery electrolyte level, conditions of terminal connections, SG reading

3. Check fuel level

4. Check air filter

5. Check fuel, cooling and lubricating system for leaks

6. Check test run of the machine; off-load for 30 minutes and record all instrument
readings
MONTHLY:

1. Check SG and PH value of coolant

2. Check injectors and service if necessary

3. Check all filters and service, clean or replace if required

4. Check condition of all hoses and belts

5. Check engine governor for correct operation

6. Check battery charging, alternator and engine, starter motor and service or replace
brushes as required

7. Check all grease points and grease if required

8. Check all electrical connections

9. Check all fuses, controls and switch gear

10. Check radiator fin spaces and clean out when required

11. Check operation of set; set on full load for a period of not less than 30 minutes, i.e.
simulated mains failure

SIX MONTHLY:

1. Drain lube oil system and refill with fresh oil

2. Renew lube oil filter elements

3. Clean crank case breather element

YEARLY:

1. Drain, flush out and refill engine oil

2. Drain, flush out and refill the cooling system

3. Renew fuel oil filter element

4. Check fuel injector timing

5. Check valve tappet clearance

6. Check cylinder head nuts and set bolts

7. Check condition of all ancillary equipment
