Batteries Can Be Damaged If Too Much Vacuum Is Used

During Electrolyte Fill{1401}
SMCS - 1401

At times, vacuum equipment is used to fill batteries with electrolyte. If too much vacuum is used, the
walls between the cells can crack. The maximum vacuum that can be used without possible damage to
the battery is 4 inches of mercury (Hg) or approximately 2 psi (14 kPa).

All dealers whose service departments have this vacuum equipment must check to make sure the
vacuum is limited to the correct amount.
