REFLECTION: “IDENTIFYING PROBLEMATIC CONCERNS
AND MATCHING WITH APPROPRIATE ACTIONS”

During my first virtual conference meeting with Sir. Alson Fernandez, my Research Teacher in Rizal
High School in Pasig City. He said, that it is hard to teach students during this pandemic than face
to face learning landscape set up before. His teaching load is quite loaded and he has no substitution
on this. He handled Grade Ten (10) with five sections and most common handle sections of him are
in middle bracket sections.
In Rizal High School, as what I have note on my discussion interview with Sir Alson. During this
pandemic they provide hard copy of modules and soft copy of modules for students as alternative
aid for their learning amidst of pandemic. On his class he said, Araling Panlipunan (AP) took three
days in one week of discussion. One day of synchronous class and two days of asynchronous class
for the students to comply the activities, works that the teacher given to them to do on their
convenient time. This time of pandemic since online or synchronous classes is available, he
mentioned that the response of the school to make it better if some students or sections has an
intermittent connection or has no touch screen devices to attend classes in online, they will use “text-
based” message of learning for the student’s incapable to attend on the online class. It’s hard to type
to type a text message and to send this on the phone number of students or in messenger.

The response of Rizal High School during this pandemic for their students are sufficient to the needs
of them, yet the workloads of some teachers are heavy. During the face-to-face learning, teachers
can demonstrate, teach very well with the presence of students in the school classroom on the
competencies needed. Somehow, since the global health crisis affect the education sector, Rizal
High School uses such google meet, zoom, messenger and Facebook as an alternative way to teach
students, to meet them virtually for online kumustahan and many more.
Lastly, he mentioned that students should be highlighted or to make them shine on the discussion
even on this kind of set up of classes. Even now I’m current Pre-Service Teacher (PST), this subject
may also help, assist our cooperating research teacher to their workloads not looking the incentives,
yet to give the sustainable needs of students in learning amidst of this is global health crisis.
