The Honorable Ron DeSantis
Governor of Florida
The Capitol
Tallahassee, Florida 32399
‘Dear Governor DeSantis:
This is in response to your January 24, 2022, request for a major disaster declaration for
the State of Florida as a result of severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes on
January 16, 2022. You specifically requested Individual Assistance for Lee and Charlotte
Counties.
Based on our review of all of the information available, it has been determined that the
damage from this event was not of such severity and magnitude as to be beyond the
capabilities of the state, affected local governments, and voluntary agencies. Accordingly,
we have determined that supplemental federal assistance is not necessary. ‘Therefore, I
must inform you that your request for a major disaster declaration is denied.
FEMA's Region IV Regional Administrator will communicate any additional resources
that may be available through Other Federal Agencies and/or volunteer organizations to
address unmet needs for survivor assistance. In addition, FEMA will coordinate with the
State of Florida to identify additional damage information to support an appeal if
necessary.
‘This denial may be appealed within 30 days after the date of this letter. Any appeal
pursuant to 44 CPR § 206.46, along with additional information justifying the appeal,
should be submitted to the President through Gracia B. Szozech, Regional Administrator,
FEMA Region LY, located at 3003 Chamblee Tucker Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30341.
Sincerely,
