At the end of this lesson, students are expected to:

LESSON PROPER
Sports
- SPORTS are an athletic activities requiring skill or and often of a competitive
nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting,
fishing, etc.
- SPORTS are activities that require physical actions and skills where individual or
teams compete under set of rules.
- SPORTS are played through-out the world and are very important to some
countries

- SPORTS are very important for our health. It increases our stamina, will power,
strength, and the last but not the least, it enhances our discipline.
TYPES OF SPORTS
Individual sports – are games played by single player against another.
Dual sports – are played by two allied players opposing another pair of
players. Ex: Racket sports and Beach volley
Team sports – It consists of 5-10 players of each game. Ex: Basketball
Racquet Games – Lawn Tennis, Badminton, and Table Tennis
Batted Games – softball and baseball
Combative Sports – Is a competitive contact sport that usually involves
one-on-one combat.
Board Games – Chess, scrabble
Ball Games – Basketball, volleyball, football
Individual and Team sports – Swimming, archery and athletics
Sportsmanship - Is the ability to treat all players, game officials and spectators fairly during
competitions. As good sport plays his/her best at all times, follow the rules of the game, and
is gracious in defeat and humble in winning.
Important aspect to consider in learning sports:
1. History – the inventor of the sport, country of origin, and development of the
game.
2. Court Dimension and venue – where the games are played (indoor, outdoor
or both), size, different designs for male or female and safety procedures for
players.
3. Equipment and gear – proper protective gear uniforms and outfits which also
involve safety of the players and officials.
4. Technical and tactical skills – technical skills are the basics of playing the
game (basketball – dribble, shoot and pass) while tactical skills are strategies
to take advantage during the game.
5. Rules of the game – set of rules on how the game is played, violations,
penalties how to score point, how many players allowed etc.
6. Officiating - Officials of the game, their duties and responsibilities of calling for
violations, penalties, point etc., and regulating fair play.
