BRIEF INTRODUCTION
LESSON 1: Knowledge and Experiences; Research in Daily Life

Were you involved in a research project before? If yes, then you can easily connect
with the processes of research making. If no, then this is a good start for you to discover
its world.

Having been part of a research project before or in the future is indeed a rigorous
and rewarding experience at the same time. Rigorous because it requires time and effort
in doing and finishing the research you are interested in. Rewarding because you will
gradually learn and integrate in your system the science of investigation, inquiry, and
curiosity to find answers to the one that troubles you in life (Baraceros, 2019). You need
to equip yourself with the concepts, methodologies, strategies, techniques, and principles
before doing such because it is not a joke, it is excellence. On the other hand, after all
that you have been through, those challenges that you have faced will transform into
rewards. For one, doing a research study makes you a versatile individual because you
engage yourself in multifaceted tasks, and that you enhance your skills. Second, you
learn more and get realizations of your queries. Last, if you ever followed the standards
and finished your research properly, you just added something to the book of knowledge
be it by supporting, debunking, or creating a new construct.

Every day, you face different activities that require you to have enough knowledge
first before doing so. From your duties at home, your homework, your projects, and even
your do-it-yourself stuff, they sometimes ask you to research their processes in order to
perform them. Without enough research, you may end up doing or creating them
unsuccessfully.

Research is a process of executing various mental acts of discovering and

examining facts and information to prove the accuracy or truthfulness of your claims or
conclusions about the topic of your research (Baraceros, 2019).

LESSON 2: Characteristics, Processes, & Ethics

Researchers must take into consideration the characteristics, processes, and

underlying ethics. You must able to understand that doing research work is not a joke,
but it has some concepts and principles that you need to know.

Characteristics of Research: Accuracy; Objectivity; Timeliness; Relevance; Clarity; Systematic;

Ethical

Ethics in Research (Christo, 2015)

Ethics is anchored on the moral standards that we follow. It promotes essential

values to guide the researcher in the process. Ethics in research includes Honesty;
Objectivity; Integrity; Caring; Openness; Carefulness; Trustworthiness; and
Responsibility.

REMEMBER

● Research is a process of executing various mental acts for discovering and examining
facts and information to prove the accuracy or truthfulness of your claims or
conclusions about the topic of your research (Baraceros, 2019).
● It is a skill that you need for you to avoid shallow concept papers. However, you have
to bear in mind that it is a rigorous process.
● You should know its characteristics, be equipped with its processes, and respect
the ethics. Although it’s a multifaceted study, it still pays to check on the guide that
will help you in your journey.
● The qualitative method is primarily exploratory research. It is used to gain an
understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations. It provides insights
into the problem or helps to develop ideas or hypotheses for potential quantitative
research.
● Quantitative research is used to quantify the problem by way of generating
numerical data or data that can be transformed into usable statistics.
