between 1886 and 1921. It was constructed over three
phases by Tukoji Rao Holkar II
and Tukoji Rao Holkar III. It
covers an area of 72 acres. the ground of the palace
still has a statue of Queen Victoria. The European-
inspired palace is a combination of various architectural
styles such as Renaissance, Palladian and Baroque. Its
well-restored interiors are decorated with chandeliers,
ceiling murals, drapes, period furniture, paintings,
mirrors, and sculptures of figures from Greek and Latin
mythology. It also an Indian dining room, which was used
to host traditional banquets.

Built on the banks of river Saraswati, this palace was

surrounded by beautiful lawns & trees, spread over an

area of 28 acres ! At one point of time, the palace had

one of the best rose gardens in India

Another interesting feature of the palace was its kitchen, on

the other side of River Saraswati, which was linked to the
palace by a bridge and also by an underground tunnel ! Small
lift for taking the food upstairs and a horizontally-moving cart
for cleaning the ceiling were among the many other
innovations in the palace !
It is also considered as one of the most stylish
royal residences in India ! Its cast iron entrance
gates are replica of those at the Buckingham
Palace London, were imported from England !
More stylish features included marble columns,
stained-glass windows, and even spring-
mounted floor in the central ballroom for extra
bounce during ball dances ! The palace’s art &
architecture was modelled on that of Palace of
Versailles, Paris, which is one of the most
beautiful palaces in the world !
The beautiful interior, use Italian
marble columns, grand chandeliers,
Persian carpets gave us an
amazing experience and an
inspiration

it had a grand ballroom which was having

wooden floor mounted on springs for extra
bounce.
