Electrical Discharge Detector Pen
TKED 1
Unique, reliable and safe way to detect electrical discharges
in electric motor bearings

The SKF Electrical Discharge Detector

Pen (EDD Pen) is a simple to use
hand-held instrument for detecting
electrical discharges in electric motor
bearings.
Electrical discharges are a result of
motor shaft voltages discharging to
earth through the bearing, causing
electrical erosion, lubricant degradation
and ultimately bearing failure.
Electric motors are more vulnerable
to suffer electrical erosion in bearings
when controlled by a Variable
Frequency Drive.
When incorporated in a predictive
maintenance program, the EDD
Pen can help detect bearings more
susceptible to failure, and significantly
prevent unplanned machine downtime.
• Unique remote solution allows
operation at a distance from the
motors which protects the user from
touching machinery in motion
• No special training required
• Capable of detecting electrical
discharges on a time base of 10 Lubricant degradation caused by electrical
seconds, 30 seconds, or indefinite discharge currents
• LED backlit screen allows use in dark
environments
• IP 55 (Ingress Protection) rating for
protection against dust and water

SKF Microlog Analyzer GX series

Route-based, one- to three-channel data collector/FFT analyzer

Supporting one- to three-channel,

multi-route, or non-route-based data
collection, the SKF Microlog Analyzer GX
series combines high performance and
ease of use for a range of predictive
maintenance tasks in many industries.
Three-channel, simultaneous triaxial
input with separate tachometer input
enables faster and more comprehensive
data collection, without adding more
collection time.
For even faster data collection, you
can configure up to 12 measurements
for automatic data collection at one
measurement location, sensor, and the
press of one button.
The GX series can be easily upgraded
with additional analysis modules to
enhance functionality—without the
need to buy another instrument.
The GX series connects seamlessly with
SKF @ptitude Analyst software.

SKF Copperhead™ fault detection system

CPHD kits
Fault detection systems for mining,
mineral processing and cement

Unplanned production shutdowns

caused by faults in mining and cement
machinery always cost more, in both
time and money, than planned
shutdowns for maintenance and
repair. With SKF Copperhead fault
detection systems, machinery faults
can be detected before an unplanned
shutdown occurs.
Using the latest vibration and
temperature measurement techniques
to monitor equipment, SKF Copperhead
systems detect faults such as loose
components, unbalance, gear and
bearing damage, lack of lubrication,
and high temperatures. The systems
feature rugged sensors developed for
the harsh mining, mineral processing
and cement industries.
These pre-engineered and easy-to-

Connector and cable assemblies - Ordering details

MIL-style stainless steel connectors are designed for use with SKF sensors. There are two different styles of IP 68 connectors:
an assembly with a twist lock and an assembly with a locking collar.
The locking collar is a threaded connector that threads onto an accompanying sensor adapter. It is recommended to secure
the sensor adapter to the accelerometer connector using thread lock (Loctite).
Both provide excellent protection against dust and water, and both achieved an ingress protection rating of IP 68. However,
the connector/cable assembly with locking collar features a metal locking ring and is therefore more suitable for applications
under water.

Note:
Isolated connectors cannot be selected with double shielded cables (e.g., part number CMSS 932-68LCI-DY-XXM is not valid).
As such, if a double shielded cable is required (shield = D), select a non-insolated connector (non-isolated = N); for example: CMSS 932-68LCN-DY-5M.
If a isolated connector is required (isolated = I), select a single shielded cable (shield = S); for example: CMSS 932-68LCI-SY-5M.
Double shielded cable should be grounded on both sides: the instrument side and the sensor side (through the machine).
If an isolated connector is selected with a double shielded cable, the sensor side will be cut off and never connected to the sensor ground.

SKF Machine Health Reporting Program

The benefits of predictive maintenance—
at a fraction of the cost

For years, large-scale manufacturers

have been using predictive maintenance
(PdM) programs to cut maintenance
costs, boost machine availability and
prevent production losses. For limited-
scale manufacturers, however, PdM
program investment costs have put
these benefits out of reach — start-up
costs alone often exceed $100,000 per
year. SKF has a much more affordable
solution.

Benefits, help to:
