Air Pollution

Air pollution is something that we cannot really ignore now-a-days. This is evident from

the moment we step out of our house and are greeted with black colored smog that hits us

directly reminding us that breathing clean air is more of a distant dream. It is so easy for us to

endlessly rant and rave about the causes of air pollution and its ill effects, but little do we

realize that each person is responsible for all the causes of air pollution and the situation that

we face today. Take a look around you at the dismal state of affairs. The thick smog that is seen

in the morning hours is not really due to somebody else but rather due to each and every one

of us. Here is a look at the causes of air pollution and how it can affect us if the matter is not

taken care of at this stage itself.

Causes of air pollution are not limited to this. The combustion of fuels in automobiles, jet

planes etc. all cause the release of several primary pollutants into the air. The burning of fossil

fuels in big cities which is seen at most factories, offices and even a large number of homes, it is

no wonder that air pollution is increasing at an alarming rate. The release of other harmful

gases all adds to the state that we see today. Although carbon dioxide plays an important role

in various other processes like photosynthesis, breathing an excess of the same also causes

harmful effects towards one’s health.

The various causes of air pollution that releases harmful gases into the atmosphere are caused

due to the increasing number of power plants and manufacturing units or industries that mostly

have activities related to the burning of fuels. Besides, as mentioned earlier, most automobiles,

marine vessels, activities that involve the burning of wood, fumes that are released from
aerosol sprays, military activities that involve the use of nuclear weapons, all are the numerous

causes of air pollution. We can help prevent air pollution byCarpool- This will help to reduce the

number of vehicles on the already congested roads.Always keep your car tuned properly so that

it remains in a good condition. Save energy- Try to use minimum amounts of natural gas and

even electricity. Whenever possible, avoid the use of air conditioner and use a fan instead.

Always buy recycled products. Reuse things such as paper and plastic bags, paper etc. This will

contribute a lot towards reducing the effects of air pollution and global warming. Avoid the use

of firecrackers. You don’t really need it to express your feeling of happiness. Go in for water-

based paints instead of varnishes. If you really cannot avoid using your car, plan your work

systematically to reduce air pollution.

The causes of air pollution can be many to name if one really studies this subject closely. With a

little effort from our side, we can help to reduce the harmful effects of air pollution so that we

can breathe in a clean and healthy environment.

Water Pollution

Our country is surrounded by watercomprised of 7,107 islands. Uncontrolled, rapid

growth of population has contributed to extreme poverty, environmental degradation and

pollution in the Philippines. Major problem encountered by the Philippines now is the water

pollution. The increased of population, urbanization, agriculture and industrialization have all

reduced the quality of water in the Philippines. According to the article the government
continues to try to clean up the problem, implementing fine to polluters as well as environment

taxes, but the problem still not solved and it is undeniable that increased population,

urbanization, agriculture and industrialization have reduced the quality of water in the

Philippines.

As part of the solution, I recommend to start in our small circle of our community. We

should be responsible in disposing their garbage properly. Our barangay should implement a

strict ordinance to give punishment to those who are throwing their waste near the rivers or

sea.Implementation of waste segregation must be present in every community. We should

encourage everyone to reuse and recycle as well.

Water pollution is becoming more and more danger to the world. Water has an important role

in our life, we must help one another to prevent water resources from dying.

Land Pollution

Land pollution is a serious problem that impacts humans, animals, and the earth.

Without taking measures now to reduce pollution levels, permanent changes to the land can

occur. The adverse changes to the environment due to land pollution are subtle, but the

problem is much bigger than it appears.Land pollution is the degradation as well as

contamination of the earth’s surface through a numerous variety of human activities. It i.e.,

land pollution is quite common as it is one of the most fought against dilemmas in our country.

However, despite the many warnings and laws aimed at preventing land pollution it still

remains one of the most prominent issues governing the quality of our living environment.

There are several factors as the major contributors to land pollution in. These factors include: -
recent increased urbanization; thoughtless disposal or to be more correct dumping of urban

waste matter both organic and inorganic in nature; dumping of industrial waste, mining and

mineral exploitation and misuse of soil and improper removal of agricultural waste.

There can be catastrophic consequences of land pollution in relation to humans, animals, water

and soils. The effects are even worse if the garbage is not separated into organic, reusable and

recyclable waste. Contaminated lands and environments can

Cause problems in the human respiratory system and health diseases. The toxic materials that

pollute the soil can get into the human body directly by Coming into contact with the skin.

Being washed into water sources like reservoirs and rivers. Eating fruits and vegetables that

have been grown in polluted soil. Breathing in polluted dust or particles. Dump sites and

landfills also come with serious problems like Very bad smell and odor in the town.

Landfills breed rodents like rats, mice and insects, who in turn transmit diseases.

landfills in towns do not attract tourists to the town. The town will lose revenue.

Many landfills are always burning and they cause further air pollution.

Like many other challenges, the best way to solve problems is to understand it. This means

learning about it (like what you are doing now) is the greatest step forward. People should be

educated and made aware of the harmful effects of littering. Discuss with friends and family

and talk about it. The greatest prevention to land pollution is in the three ‘R's’ …

Reduce Waste, reuse things and Recycle things. This is true even for governments. They can

also use the three ‘R’ rule to minimize the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. After the

three 'R's, remember to turn the rest of the garbage into compost. Personal litter should be
disposed properly. We can separate household waste at home for recycling. More than half of

our household waste could be recycled or re-used but once it is mixed up, it becomes more

difficult to separate different components for recycling. This is also true for the waste we make

at school or hospitals. Buy biodegradable products. Store all liquid chemicals and waste in spill-

proof containers. Eat organic foods that are grown without pesticides. Look out for fertilizer or

pesticide free products when you go to the market. Don’t use pesticides if you can.Use a drip

tray to collect engine oil. Buy products that have little packaging. Don’t dump motor oil on the

ground. Governments can also ensure that there are incentives for people to recycle and re-use

things.
