Photography was new in the 19th century . At that time pictorialists were photographers whose
photos tried to depict paintings. The photos were made to resemble oil paint like drawings. The
photos usually contained still objects who had a significant composition in all. The photos relied on
the lighting and details in the picture. The rules of these were devised by teachers who studied
various global photos and then formulated the common aspects .
The award for such pictorialists is the most desired. The photo is successful only if it has a good
composition . Each aspect was to be impactful and well composed even the background and smallest
of the details mattered. The photo relied on many factors. Of the factors the main one was the
balance of brightness. This involved a near similar areas of light and dark . The next important factor
was the placement. Of the focal point which was not to be in the centre but around it. The use of
warmer colors was then stronger than cool colors. Also having few bolder details was better than
using smaller intricate details.
The instructor in his talk mentions the picture involving a white house. The white house is on the top
of a cliff . There are clouds on the left and sea birds can be seen flying above the house. There is
water just on the bottom that somewhat cuts under the hanging cliff. Each detail and part of the
photo is in harmony with each other. Here the photo is balanced and every detain in it has a
particular significance an is essential.

While people may disagree to having subjects like art , music and drama in a child’s basic education ,
I feel that they play an important part and so must be included. The main subjects like the sciences
and maths along with the business studies and the management are the core of every curriculum .
Similarly the subjects like drama and music play another important part . These subjects help the
overall development of a child. They help the child develop a personality and social stature.
The subjects also act as things to develop hobbies. Hobbies are important to every child as they need
to have some past time or interest apart from their mainstream academics . Music has been said to
increase the concentration of children and also is a great tool to soothe your mind . Playing music
also helps relieve stress and thus act as stress buster in the hard and tough live. Even adults today
can bee seen playing music and performing other arts as to relieve stress in their stressful busy lives.
Drama on the other hand helps a child develop oratory skills . It helps them develop the confidence
of a public speech or talking in front of people . Like a shy child may become less shy as he gains
confidence by acting on stage. Stage fear is an important hurdle in many lives and drama helps us
overcome that at a very young age. Arts also help in the development of the child’s imagination and
abstract understanding. Ther serve as a medium of expression of ones feelings.
Many children by the exposure of these subjects along with the more mainstream subjects can then
have a clearer image about what they want to pursue later. So a child may find painting very
interesting and may go on to become a painter in the future. Exposure to such subjects at a very
young age helps them find their right interest and develop a occupation out of them. Hence looking
at the great advantages if including these subjects in the child’s curriculum at a basic education level
will surely doo great good.
