Raiders of the Sulu Sea

In this documentary it showed the different information of our different muslim tribe in
mindanao in 1720, it talks about how skillful they are in terms of maritime and how they
do a slave raiding. It also talks about how the Fort Pilar was attacked by the group of
Bulig led by king of bulig known as King Dalasi. It showed why The Raiders of the Sulu
Sea is important in the History.

This documentary talks about the Slave raiding activities and economic activities that
has done by muslim tribes in their time. Slave raiding is a military raid for the purpose
of capturing people and make them as their slave. In the documentary of Raiders of the
Sulu Sea, it talks about the slave raiding activities of the different muslim tribe, also
known as Samal balangingi, Tausug, and Illanun. When they captured their target they
will make them as a slave and also sell them. Other than slave raiding, the documentary
also said that in this time the Spanish people are also here to socialize in terms of
trading in Mindanao. But in the other side, this is just a trick of this Spanish because
what they really wanted is to spread their colonization power in Mindanao. It also show
the different technology or let say different materials of what the different muslim tribes
they used specifically in seafaring, because the documentary showed how the muslim
tribes are very skillful in terms of maritime, they are very skillful to the point that they
know the behavior of the sea. It also showed the different style of weapons that they are
using depending on what tribes they are belong. Example of this is the kalis, kampilan,
moro kris. The strategy of this tribes on slave raiding is they will go to different location
where trading is happening, then they will pretend as a trader and declare the raiding
where they will capture and made them as their slaves. The trade mark of the different
slave raiders is they put a hole in the palm of their captured victims where they will put a
rope on it so that these prisoner will not escape. The Fort Pilar here is built by the
spaniards located at the Zamboanga, this is the place where the different tribes come
together as one group to attack the spaniards, this is because the different tribes did not
like the presence of spaniards in Zamboanga as well as their different doings specifically
by spreading the Christianity and also because this spaniards wanted to control the
trading in Mindanao. Even though the size of their mens of the muslim tribe is larger
than the spaniards the battle is hard for them, then what the spaniards did to stop the
attack by the muslim, they bought a steam ship in England. This steam ship is equal to
the ship of the muslim raiders, because the steam ship is more advance that the ship of
the muslim raiders, that result to the loss of the muslim raider, the effect of this is the
decreasing of the Slave raiding event.
The different tribes of muslims also known as the Ilanun, Samal Balangingi, and Taosug
tribes contribute an impact on our Philippine History, because it showed that the
culture they have is important to them, thats why when they feel the presence and the
small changes because of the spaniards they come togethers as one to fought the
