Onsite Attribution [OSA]
OSA is a machine learning based solution that attributes incremental revenue
to widgets, and campaign ad placements on the Amazon website’s pages. The
signals generated by the system are used for optimizing the appearances of
widget content on the website during Events (eg: Prime Day, Spring Sale) and
reporting their performance post-event.
1. Designed a system to automate the data pre-processing step of the
OSA workflow using Spark SQL, Dynamo DB, Map Reduce, and Lambda.
Automation reduced the data preparation effort from manual effort of 2 weeks
to 1 day automatic data preparation.
2. Worked with the OSA Research team to redesign and scale the Python
based feature generation process for ML model training and inference using
Scala and Spark ML Pipelines. The redesign reduced the I/O load from 8+TB

to 1.5 TB. It also reduced the required size of Hadoop cluster from 24 nodes to
8 nodes.
3. Remotely mentored a 2 month summer Intern. The intern received a job
offer upon successful completion of project. I also performed 50+ Code
reviews for the team.
4. As one of the founding engineers, I setup code build and deployment
pipelines, integration tests, setup alarms and service health monitoring
dashboards for the team
5. GDPR compliance - I audited and on-boarded all of the teams data to
Amazon's On-demand data deletion service.

Machine Learning Attribution [MLA]
MLA is a machine learning based solution that attributes incremental revenue
to every advertising exposure associated with any purchase, worldwide. The
signals generated by the system are used for aggregated reporting, efficiency
measurement, and real time optimization of various advertising automated
marketing channels like Paid Social media, Paid Search, Emails, Associates.
1. Designed a module called AutoRecovery using Java, Spring Framework - a
smart scheduler and resource allocator that optimized use of Hadoop Clusters
to ensure that workflows run within SLA, reducing the number of SLA misses
by 30%.
2. Implemented a Salted-Join algorithm in Scala to handle skewed data
effectively, reducing the workflow runtime from 4.5 hrs to 3hrs.
3. Root caused and resolved InfoSec violations on our team's dashboard
website which is built using ReactJS
4. Made operational improvements by moving MapReduce Clusters to Private
subnet, migrating from CSE encryption to S3 SSE encryption, and adding
additional integration tests to the code deployment pipeline

5. Mentored a 6 month intern and served as an on-boarding buddy for a

Amazon API is the backend to Amazon's worldwide Detail Page Framework.
It vends out information rendered on Amazon product pages like title, price,
buying options, ratings etc. for generating the product pages.
1. Collaborated with the Amazon Music team, and Amazon Search team, in
away-team mode, and migrated the Amazon API Music detail page specific
sub-resources from a Spring MVC stack to an Amazon internal functional
programming language called DataPath.
2. Planned the Q4 peak hardware requirements for the team, by setting up
load tests, and calculated the appropriate number of AWS EC2 instances
required in the computation and cache layer for handling peak traffic (8+ billion
requests across Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday event)
3. Setup A/B testing mechanisms to safely transition users to a new version for
