Gear and Sprocket Calculations

This document contains 5 multi-part math problems involving the design and calculations of various mechanical gear systems. It provides the relevant parameters and asks for specific values or dimensions to be calculated to various decimal places, including pitch diameters, addendum diameters, backlash, speed ratios, forces, efficiencies, power and more. The respondent is asked to show their work and provide numerical answers for each sub-part of the problems.

Directions:
Show your solution.

1. Given a gear of 24-tooth, 4- pitch, the clearance is to be one-eight of the addendum, and
the backlash to 2% of the circular pitch. Calculate the following to three decimal places:
A. The pitch diameter
B. The addendum diameter
C. The dedendum diameter
D. The backlash
E. The space width
F. The tooth thickness
2. A pair of bevel gears having a speed ratio of 2.5 has 5-pitch at 14.5 o involute. The pitch
diameter of pinion is 6 in. Find the following:
A. Addendum angle of the gear.
B. Dedendum angle of the gear.
C. Face angles
D. Cutting angle
E. Number of teeth of the pinion and gear

3. A straight tooth bevel gear has a face width of 4.5 inches and a pitch diameter of the pinion
is 10 inches with cone pitch angle of 38o. If the torque on the pinion is 8500 in-lb, determine the
following:
A. Tangential force on the pinion.
B. Radial and axial force of the pinion if the normal pressure angle is 14.5 degrees.
C. Resultant force.
D. Speed ratio if the gears at right angle.

4. A double thread worm gear having a pitch of 0.75 inch and has a linear speed of 225 fpm.

B. The efficiency of the worm if the normal pressure angle is 14.2 degrees.
C. The power delivered by the worm if the torque transmitted is 750 ft-lb, kW.
D. Tangential force
E. Radial force on the worm
F. Axial force on the worm
5. A small sprocket turns at 650 rpm has a service factor of 1.6. If 12 kW/strand chain is to be
used, find the
A. Design hp
B. Torque can the chain and sprocket be deliver?
C. Roller chain number
