EVALUATE AND CONTROL HAZARDS AND RISKS
I. Background Information for Learner
Evaluating risks is a key step in working with hazardous materials, instrumentation, and equipment. A risk
assessment will in part examine the probability that an adverse event will occur and the consequence of that event when
working with hazardous materials. Ultimately, this can help to determine the proper controls that will be needed to avoid
the adverse event.
Thus, every hazard carries some risk – a chance that it could actually result in harm. It’s important to evaluate
hazards to determine how great that risk is. Hazards that pose more than mild risk need to be brought under control
especially in Front Office Services wherein they are in the frontline area.
II. Learning Competency with code

III. REFLECTION
Evaluating and controlling hazards and risks plays an important purpose in the Occupational Safety and
Health (OSH) thus, the goal of all occupational safety and health programs is to foster a safe work environment. As a
secondary effect, it may also protect co-workers, family members, employers, customers, suppliers, nearby
communities, and other members of the public who are impacted by the workplace environment. It is always better to
control the hazard as close to the source as possible.
IV. Evaluation: POSTER MAKING
Directions: Draw a poster with the theme - “Control and Prevent Hazard, Before It Starts”.
