TEST POLICY FOR MORSE RECEIVING /SENDING
Designing of messages :- 1200 character in the form of 11 messages (i.e. 6 plain messages
each of 125 characters = 750 characters and 5 cipher/code (3 fig cipher and 2 letter cipher)
messages each of 90 characters=450 characters) will be transmitted by the automatic Morse
code processor at a speed of 16 wpm continuously with a character space – 5. Messages will
be separated by using minimum 3 separation signs followed by prosign EL with bar which
will not count as characters.
llustrated as :-
Sl Types of messages Nos of Nos of characters with Total
messages each messages Characters
1 Plain 6 125 750
Cipher (fig) 3 90 270
Cipher (letter) 2 90 180
Total 11 1200
COUNTING OF CHARACTERs:- All letters will be taken as one character, figure taken
as 1.5 character and punctuation signs/prosigns will be taken as 2 characters. The prosigns
transmitted in the form of plain will be counted as one character such as for transmitting
address info II W II will be counted as 5 character here prosign W will not counted as 2
characters whereas prosing BT with bar will be counted as 2 characters.
WORD:- On and average 5 characters = 1 word, therefore to calculate the speed in word per
minutes the following may be adhered:-
Total characters Total word Time taken in speed
minutes
1200 1200/5 = 240 15 minutes 240/15= 16 WPM
This could vary by using same formula.
Speed = Total Word
Time Taken
Method of Evaluation
Morse Receiving:- For Morse receiving 40 percent is pass mark. All characters of every
message should be recorded very neatly so that every character will be recognized distinctly
by the examiner who will evaluate with following procedure.
50
Morse Receiving Total marks 50 Pass Marks 20
Mistakes -1 for every single mistakes
Discrepancies -1/2 for every five discrepancies
Morse Sending: - 11 messages comprising 1200 characters will be send by the sender in 15
minutes of time. For strict evaluation the following procedure shall be adopted by the
examiner to deduct marks.
Morse Sending Marks to be deducted out of Pass Marks 20
Total marks 50
One corrected error -1
One uncorrected error - 0.5
One not error -2.5
Beyond 15 Minutes -2 for every one minutes
Discrepancies -1 for every five discrepancies
After 30 minutes sender will be declared washed out
