WHAT I HAVE LEARNED

I've learnt about the different parts of music, such as texture and overall sound quality of a song, which is usually
expressed by the number/layer. TEMPO, the underlying beat's pace (fast and slow). The volume (loudness and softness) of a
sound or note is referred to as DYNAMICS. Finally, the TIMBRE, also known as tone color or tone quality, is what distinguishes
one musical sound from another.

I also learned about African traditional music, such as the Apala (Akpala), a musical genre from Nigeria in the Yoruba
ethnic style used to wake up worshippers after fasting during the Muslim holy feast of Ramadan. The juju is a popular Nigerian
music form that depends on traditional Yoruba rhythms, but the instruments of Juju are more Western in origin. The Zouk, a
quick, carnival-like hythmic song derived from the Creole slang word for 'party,' originated in the Caribbean islands of
Guadaloupe and Martinique and became famous in the 1980s. The Blues, or blues notes, generate an expressive and soulful
tone. The sensations produced are typically associated with minor misfortune, lost love, frustration, or loneliness. Soul music
was a popular musical genre in the 1950s and 1960s. Its origins can be traced back to the United States. It incorporates elements
of African-American gospel music, rhythm and blues, and, on occasion, jazz. The infectious rhythms are accompanied by
handclaps and spontaneous body movements, which are among its key elements. The spiritual, which is generally associated
with a genuinely devout individual, here refers to a Negro spiritual, which is a song form created by African migrants to America
who were enslaved by its white people. This musical form became their avenue for expressing their loneliness and rage, and it is
the product of the combination of African music and religion with that of America. Finally, the call and response, which is similar
to the question and answer process in human communication, bears a significant resemblance to the verse-chorus style seen in
many vocal works.

The Latin American Music which also includes the Cumbia, a traditional African courtship dance featuring European and
African instruments and traits, is also included in Latin American music. The tango may be of African origin, meaning "African
dance," or it may be derived from the Spanish verb taner, which means "to play" (an instrument). The Cha cha is a ballroom
dance that developed in Cuba in 1953, drawn from the mambo and its distinctive rhythm of two crochets, three quavers, and a
quaver rest, with syncopation on the fourth beat. The Bossa Nova, which means "trend" or "something lovely," combines
melody, harmony, and rhythm into a swaying feel with a nasal vocal style. The Salsa is a social dance with strong Cuban and
Puerto Rican elements that originated in New York in the mid1970s. The Rumba is a repeated tune with an ostinato pattern that
is played by maracas, claves, and other Cuban percussion instruments. Reggae is a popular urban music and dancing style that
started in Jamaica in the mid1960s. The Foxtrot is a 20th century social dance that emerged in the United States after 1910. It
was performed in one step, two step, and syncopated rhythmic patterns. Finally, the Paso doble (literally "double step") is a
theatrical Spanish dance performed by Spaniards in bullfights, in which music is played when the matador enters (paseo) and
passes right before the kill (faena).

Jazz time, which also includes Ragtime, is a popular American musical style mostly for piano that originated in the Afro-
American cities of St. Louis and New Orleans. The Big Band is a huge ensemble form that originated in the United States in the
mid1920s and is closely associated with the Swing Era while incorporating jazz characteristics. Frog I More Rag was written by
Jelly Roll Morton, an American ragtime and early jazz pianist. Big band music is associated with jazz and swing and began in the
United States. Bebop, often known as bop, is a modern jazz musical style distinguished by its quick tempo. Finally, jazz rock
refers to the music of 1960s and 1970s bands that incorporated jazz influences into rock music. Jazz rock, sometimes known as
"jazz fusion," is a combination of funk and R&B ("rhythm and blues") rhythms.

Popular Music, also includes the Ballad which originated as an expressive folksong in narrative verse with text dealing
typically about love. The Standard which style is mostly in a slow or moderate tempo with a relaxed mood. The Rock and roll
which was a hugely popular song form in the United States during the late 1940’s to the 1950’s. It combined 7 Afro-American
forms such as the blues, jump blues, jazz, and gospel music with the Western swing and country music. The Disco music which
pertained to rock music that was more danceable, thus leading to the establishment of venues for public dancing also called
discos.

I also learned about Alternative music, which was a sort of underground independent music that emerged in the 1980s.
It became popular in the 1990s as a method to rebel against "mainstream" rock music. As a result, it was noted for its outlandish
tactics such as distorted guitar sounds, repressive lyrics, and defiant demeanor.

I also learned about Elvis Presley's approach, which served as a forerunner to the British band known as The Beatles,
whose works reinforced rock and roll as the preferred genre of the period. I Saw Her Standing There, Get Back, While My Guitar
Gently Weeps, Rock and Roll Music, and Ticket to Ride are some of The Beatles' songs in this genre.

I’ve also found out that Rap was also popularized by songwriters and artists such as Francis Magalona
(MgaKababayanKo and Watawat) and Andrew E. (HumanapKangPangit).
