IMPORTANCE OF HISTORY
I totally agree with the saying from the article, that “History does
not repeat itself. We repeat History”.” In its broadest meaning, history
is the study of past events. It mainly represents the known past. All
of people's history is composed of the recording and interpretation of
a society's experiences. May it be a good experience or a bad one. The
important thing is that we should learn from both. It is also
mentioned in the article that history or kasaysayan is not just a
narrative or salaysay- it must have saysay or meaning. A lot of
students may say that history is boring but the real reason why they
find it boring because they are not clear about what it should be for.
History matters because it can provide us solutions to many of the
problems of the present. At its best, history is there to introduce us
to some of the things we need but are not sufficiently visible in the
world today. If we find meaning in the history then it will gain power
to change our lives.
As a society, we are fascinated with what we are doing right now.
Unconsciously, we are highly biased towards the present. The news,
which is about the most famous artist of today, richest politicians,
and some of the things that just happened in the lasty five minutes.
And yet, many of the most important things that we need to nourish,
sustain and inspire us are a lot older. In terms of inferiority and
compromise, the present is not unusual. Once you read the letters,
you'll discover that the old ones were just as awful as the new ones.
And, while our challenges are significant, they are not exceptional
when compared to previous challenges. In the article, it was stated
that the people before were more focused about Apolinario Mabini’s
paralysis rather than his intellectual capacity to govern. It can teach
us to judge our society against other society rather than against our
ideals. Bacolod may have a lot of problems but Manila had them too
and many more. Our government are deeply imperfect. President
Duterte may be a bad president, but there have been worse. By this,
history also teach people to elect best leaders for our country. of the
Philippines. When we talk of corruption in government we commonly
think of bribes, rigged biddings, and kickbacks in overpriced public
projects. Philippines was no stranger to “traditional” corruption.
History may be reassuring. Knowing what history is for should
transform the way the subject is taught. They should try to tell us
things about the past that will assist us deal with current challenges.
Not the past for its sake, but the past for our sakes.
Historical places and historical objects can also be used as a
factor in tourism development. During all history of mankind people
exchanged cultural experience, ideas, values and goods through art,
trade and migrations. Cultural self-expression of people always
causes interest. Natural curiosity of a tourist concerning various
corners of the world form one of the strongest incentive tourist
motives Historical and cultural potential of the country is one of the
main factors of tourism, because, it is an important tool for attracting
tourists, as connection to historical and cultural heritage is a
powerful tourist magnet. The cultural and historical centers not only
bring incomes to the region, but give local population the grounds to
be proud of the unique heritage and give opportunities to share it
with tourists. Cultural capacity of the region is expressed in its
historical heritage. The region can project a positive image in the
market because to its historical and cultural assets. Culture can
serve as a vehicle for disseminating information about the district's
tourist attractions. This is how learning history can be very helpful
in my chosen career. Having a deep understanding in history can
help me in my future career. Since I am tourism student, I should
expand my knowledge about the past happenings of certain place. In
that way, I could be able to share it with different people.
History can be beneficial in a variety of ways. It enables us to
see and understand how people and communities functioned in the
past. It also gives us the facts we need to create laws and theories
about many areas of society. The most important thing we need
nowadays is excellent ideas. And history is filled with them. Things
can change, as history has taught us. People haven't always been as
materialistic and work-obsessed as they are now, incapable of
creating historic homes, overly concerned with being connected,
preoccupied on being ridiculously skinny and is more focused to
achieve the so called “beauty” standards of today’s society. Those
who are ignorant of history will be unable to improve the present
situation. History can also teach us the value of courage. Knowing
what impressions previous generations left, teaches us that history
can teach us valuable lessons. This is how history can improve and
change our lives.
