Choir Review

The evaluation of the Christa McAuliffe school's performance highlighted a need for improved musicality and technique, particularly in the use of dynamics and clearer diction. While the altos were noted for their musicality, the male members were less audible, and some singers struggled with pitch accuracy. Overall, the group showed potential with strong energy and harmonies but requires more attention to performance details.

GRADING ON: musicality, technique, quality of sound

School: Christa Mcauliffe

Song #1

The group could use more musicality and technique. For starters, a lot of the members

stood with their hands in front of themselves while performing. The group has about 12

members. The majority are girls however, they are very strong. I would say the altos are

the most musical. They had two male members who I could not hear the entire time until

to the end. Despite this, they were knowledgeable on their part and did not lack any

quality of sound. Another thing I noticed about this piece was a need for more

technique. They could use more dynamics and attention to directer. I liked how you

could really feel the energy on the songs.

Song #2

For their second piece, I liked how tall their vowels were. They’re very open and

expressive. On the phrase, “Come again tomorrow night”, I’d like to hear more of a

hairpin crescendo into a decrescendo. Furthermore, I’d like a bit crisper diction. On

some soprano parts, there was a bit of sliding to and from notes. Adding onto this, some

members need to try getting “on top” of the note.

Song #3

For this piece, I’d like clearer diction. I couldn’t really understand all the words they had

been saying. I liked how they used themselves as instruments in addition to the snare

drum. I like the different harmonies and how clear and concise they were. I couldn’t

make out where the tenors were in the song. I don’t know if they were just quiet or

singing the same part as the sopranos and altos.
