1. What is the average family in Hungary?
In most families there are two children, a mother and a father. Of course, kit’s difficult to
tell, because there are families with more than two children, and many couples get divorced
and the children usually stay with the mother. In some families there are three generations
living together. This means that one or two grandparents live with the family too, and they
help with the housework and they also look after the children while the parents are at work.
2.What is your own family like?
3. In what way do you take after the members of your family in appearance and
character?
Most people say, I’m just like my mother. We both have big green eyes, and long, dark
brown, curly hair. We are both interested about books, and arts, we often go to exhibitions
and concerts together
4.How about household pets? Have you got one?
Yes, we have four cats, and a dog. My sister and me look after the pets, at the weekends we
take the dog for a walk. The dog is fed by my mother every day, and I give the food for the
cats every day. We take the pets to the vet every year. He vaccinates the dog and the cats, and
prescribe some vitamins, if necessary.
5. Who looks after the pets in your family?
My sister and me look after the pets, at the weekends we take the dog for a walk. The dog is
fed by my mother every day, and I give the food for the cats every day. We take the pets to
the vet every year. He vaccinates the dog and the cats, and prescribe some vitamins, if
necessary.
6. Do your grandparents live with you?
No, our grandparents don’t live with us, but we visit hem every weekend, and spend the lunch
time together. Grandma usually makes some cookies, and a very delicious lunch, and we talk
about what happened with us during the week.
7. Do you live at home?
Yes, I live at home. I have a full time office job in Nyíregyháza, but I want to save as money
as I could to move together with my boyfriend. I don’t want to borrow too much many from a
bank because of the interest rates.
8. Do you get on well with your family?
Yes, we always discuss our problems, and the good things that have happened to us during the
week. It doesn’t matter, what happened to me, I always tell to my mother first. We always
share the housework, and we go to do the shopping together at the weekend, and we plan
together where to go, and what to do during the holidays.
9. Do you spend a lot of time with your family?
Yes, we try to, but everybody is rather busy. My father works in Germany, so when he is at
home, we usually visit our grandparents, and other relatives, and this time usually barbecue
together in the garden, if the weather is good. During th spring and summer, we always go to
trip, and discover a new place. Besides that, we like to go the beach during the summer at
least 2 times a month.
10. What sort of things do you do together?
we usually visit our grandparents, and other relatives, and this time usually barbecue together
in the garden, if the weather is good. During th spring and summer, we always go to trip, and
discover a new place. Besides that, we like to go the beach during the summer at least 2 times
a month.
11. Has your relationship with your parents and with the members of your family
changed as you grown older?
Yes, of course. We talk about more serious issues, and I’m involved in all kinds of decisions
concerning my family. I don’t have to be told, what responsibilities I have to take in my
family, as I do things on my own initiative
12. Do you have a lot of relatives?
I have 3 aunts and 3 uncles. My aunts live in Újfehértó, so I can visit them every week, if I
want. One of my uncles lives in Debrecen, and the other two live in Budapest, so we see each
other just on the holidays. Some of my cousins live in Újfehértó, so we meet with each other
two or three times a week, but I rarely see my other cousins. We always video chat, and chat
with each other, but we meet only just on the holidays.
13. What is meant close and distant relatives?
Close relatives are your grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and distant relatives means
your grandparents brothers and sisters, and their families
14. Do you think that large families are happy families?
The happiness doesn’t depends on the size of the family. I know a woman, who raise her
child alone, and they happy, because they love and respect each other, but in the large family
could be happen that the members of the family never spend any time with each other, and
never speak with each other anything. The happiness depends on, how the members of the
family care about with each other and love each other.
15. Is family life more pleasant than hundred years ago?
It’s hard to tell, because the phones and the internet didn't exist a hundred years ago, but now
they are exist, and it has advantages. For example, I can speak with my father, even, he is in
Germany, and I can chat with my friends. But there are disadvantages, because if the children
use the internet and telephone too much, it has a bad effect to the relationships between the
parents and their children. So, in my opinion it is more pleasant, but the children have to use
the internet carefully.
16.What do you think might be the effects of technology on family life?
The modern technology makes our life easier in several ways. For example you don’t have to
spend a lot of time with the laundry, you just start the washing machine, and hang the clothes
up to dry, so you can save a lot of time. But the technology has disadvantages too, for
example the television makes stupid the people, because there are a lot of contents without
any sense or creativity, and the channels always copy each other, and they do just talk shows
and reality or talent shows, so in my opinion, the modern technology makes our life easier, we
just have to use well the technologies
17. What factors are important in deciding when to leave home?
You have to have a job, saved money, and if you don't want to live alone, you have to have a
boyfriend or a girlfriend who would like to live with
18.At what age do young people usually leave home in Hungary?
Those people who continue their studies at a college or university far from their home have to
move somewhere near the institution. It’ doesn’t really mean leave their home, because they
are at home most of the weekends and holidays. There are people, who start to work after
secondary school, and they move from home, when they have enough money to afford either
to buy or rent a flat.
19.Do you approve of couples living together and even having children without getting
married?.
I do not condemn the unmarried couples, because there are a lot of married and unmarried
couples who are happy and unhappy too. If the couple love their children, and try to spend as
many times with her or his as they could, in this case it doesn’t matter if they are married or
not
20. What is the ideal age to start a family?
It depends on many things. For example whether the couple have jobs or they are student, and
whether they have a place to stay, and have enough money to raise an own child.
21.How much freedom is given to you to make your own decisions?
I live with my parents, we discuss everything, because I’m interested about their opinions and
advice, but I make the final decision myself. When I was hesitating between two schools or
two jobs, I had a long conversation with my parents about their advantages and disadvantages,
which helped me a lot.
22. What do you most like and dislike about family life these days?
It’s good that we have several activities that we can do together with my family, but
unfortunately everybody is too busy most of the time. We like hiking very much, and discover
new places together, and we may plan to spend the weekend together , but it often turns out
that one of us is not free
23. What is your opinion about early marriages?
It depends on the circumstance and the personalities of the couple. I know people, who got
married in their early twenties, and they are still happy together after thirty years. Others may
divorce a year after marriages or stay together even though they can’t stand each other
24. What is your opinion about arranged marriages?
I think the couple and not the parents should decide whether the couple will live together .I
can’t imagine to marrying someone who I see for the first time at the wedding ceremony
25. How do you imagine your future family? Would you like just one child or more?
I’m dreaming of having a happy family with three children. My husband would be a program
planner, and I would be a bank clerk. I would have a big house with a big garden, a big house
with 4 bed rooms, two bathrooms, a hall and a big kitchen. We would have a good job, so we
could go to interesting places. At the weekends we would go on short trips, and we would
spend a lot of time abroad.
26. How can parents prepare their child the arrival of the baby?
The parent should talk with their children what life will be when the baby arrives. They
should give child responsibilities concerning the housework and the baby, and they should
spend as many time as they could with their child both before and after the birth of the baby.
27. How much freedom do you think children should have in the choice of friends,
hobbies and careers?
I think children should be allowed to choose their friends and hobbies, but of course, I, as a
parent, wouldn’t like my children to do anything dangerous. I would try to make them
understand that their whole future life depends on how well they do at school, and I would
help them to choose a career if they ask my advice, and I wouldn’t force them to study
something that they don’t want to.
28. Does an only child miss a lot of things?
In my opinion they are more often alone, especially if they don’t have many friends. Also
there are things that they won’t be able to discuss with their parents, Brothers and sisters help
each other with everything, and it’s also much easier to make friends if you have a brother or
sister around you.
29. Do you think family planning makes any sense?
I think it’s important because having a family means responsibilities. You have to be able to
provide for the children, and you can’t do what you want, you have to consider the needs of
your family first. You also need a lot of time to spend with your family, and for yourself.
30. Why do you think more and more marriages break up?
People seem to have no time for each other and our lifestyle is getting more and more hectic,
because of the stress at work and the constant fear of being redundant and old, and the
relationships between the parents are getting weaker after year and year
31. Is the generation gap bigger today than before?
Due to the change of communication, younger and older generation see the world
differently,People age 18 to 29 were more likely to report disagreements over lifestyle, views
on family, relationships and dating, while older people cited differences in a sense of
entitlement.Younger people are more likely to embrace technology. About 75 percent of
adults 18 to 30 went online daily, compared with 40 percent of those 65 to 74 and about 16
percent for people 75 and older.
32. Do you have a lot of friends?
No, I only have just 2 best friends from primary school, and high school. One of them live in
Újfehértó, and my other friend live in Nyírbátor
33.What do you usually do together?
We usually ride a bike in the city, go to shopping, take our dog for a walk together, go to
beautician and to hairdresser together, go to cinema, or just go to each others house and
watch movies or tv series together
34.How do you choose your friends?
In my opinion that very important, to have same hobbies and interests, because if you can’t do
anything together, or the friends don’t have any same topic to talk about, in this case it is
difficult to form a friendship with each other
35. What is your best friend like?
My best friend is small and slender girl. She has long, light brown hair, her eyes are brown
and she has long eyelashes. She has a straight nose and full lips. She usually wear oversize
clothes, and sneakers.
36, What inner qualities do you consider to be essential ones?
The most important qualities are honesty and reliability, I can’t stand those people who are
conceited and condescending.
37. Do you have friends abroad?
Yes, when I spent a week in Germany, I made some friends. We spend a week in Germany
every summer, and during this weeks, I have met a lot of teenager, and we chat and videochat
each other every week.
38. How do you keep in contract?
We keep in contact either by e-mail or letters, and occasionally even chat on the Internet.
40, In what ways do you think young people are different in different countries?
It depends on the country. I think that in western Europe people have more freedom in making
decisions and also financially more independent, because these countries are more advanced.
As they have more money, they have different free time activities and they can travel more
and buy fashionable clothes.

I like comfortable clothes. That’s why I wear jeans with T shirt most of the time, or a mini
skirt in the summer. With jeans, I mostly wears trainers, with a mini skirt a pair of sandals.

heeled black shoes. On such occasion I like wearing costume jewellery, such as bangles,
necklaces, clips or an anklet.

I usually dress up more elegant. I like to wear blouse and shirts with jeans and sandals, or
with skirts and sandals, and I like dresses too.. It depends on the weather, that I wear skirts or

How person dresses depends on the occasion, their personality, their build, and the mood of
the person. I don’t like those people, who wear jeans and pullover in the theatre, because I

depressed.

Yes, people’s clothes reflect their personality to an extent, though many people follow the

Some people obviously think that following the latest trend is the only way to decide what to

Not long ago, I read an interesting article about clothing habits. It said that when there’s a
crisis in economy, women wear longer skirts and in the time of economic boo, the skirts get
shorter.

This is what most of the people believe, but there are a lot of women who don’t care about
fashion at all and there are more and more men who insist (ragaszkodik) on the latest designer
clothes.

I think it’s easier for women to follow the latest fashion because designers del mostly with
women clothes. When you enter a store, the department for women’s wear is usually bigger

different type of clothes: trousers, skirt, mini skirt, dresses, while men are restricted to
wearing jeans , trousers or shorts.

and boots, a pair of skis, a pair of poles(rúd) and goggles.(vcédőszemüveg)

woman in this position should wear a suit and some accessories.
