Release details
In the change descriptions below, a revision category letter is placed to the left of the description. Refer to the
Appendix at the end of this document for additional details.

Multilin 650 Family - Firmware version 7.72 Release Details

Bay Controller & Monitoring System/Feeder Protection Relay

Common Platform functions - F650, C650

N New logical nodes included in IEC 61850 edition 2.

• New logical nodes have been added and some existing nodes have been updated in IEC 61850
edition 2. E.g. New logical nodes vouGGIO (Analog virtual outputs from PLC), LCCH, LTMS, SGCB and
SCBR have been included in the data model.
N New metering values added to show Power Demand MAX and MIN.
• Support of Minimum Power demand in Modbus memory map.
• MAX and MIN Power demand available in MMXU in IEC 61850.
G Fixed the issue with negative values displayed in the Energy metering.
• The value of Energy metering was increasing up to the maximum range. Once the maximum range
was reached, the value should be reset to 0, but it was observed that the Energy metering showed
negative values for some time due to an overflow issue. This behavior is fixed in this firmware
release.
G Improve (Digital Signal Processor) DSP-MAIN CPU intercommunications robustness.
• Under certain circumstances, “DSP COMMS ERROR” event was raised for a short period of time 2-4
ms. The communications between the DSP and the main CPU have been improved and new
control mechanisms have been introduced to increase DSP-MAIN CPU communication robustness.
R Fix oscillography/transient record file timestamp info reported through IEC 61850 MMS.
• When an IEC 61850 client was connected, and the oscillography files of the relay were downloaded
using the 61850 client, it was observed that the creation timestamp of these files did not match
between the ones downloaded through COMTRADE and the ones downloaded through the 61850
browser. This issue has been solved in this FW release.
R Fix IEC 61850 Server failure related to snapshotevents requests by http.
• IEC 61850 comms broke when snapshotevents request through http was running in parallel. New
version improves management of dynamically allocated memory under this specific circumstance.
E Enhancements in PLC.
• Operation Mask and Operation Timer Mask elements can be now linked directly to PLC analog
variables.

E Enhancement in the CID upload/download process.

• Change in the way to save the CID file after being downloaded.
• Button “Delete Relay CID Files” is extracted to Fixed Commands.
G Fixed issue in the IEC 61850 configurator.
• Solved the “Run Time” message displayed trying to send a CID file created offline.
G Fixed issue with Virtual metering signals.
• Virtual Metering signals from libraries were not marked as “used” when they were previously used.
This issue has been fixed, and mapped points are now marked in the selection menu.
• Virtual metering that were not float32 neither int32 were hidden. If they were used in a library while
project compilation, an error message was showed. This issue has been fixed in this FW release.
G Fixed some missing setting in the DNP 3.0 configuration.
• When a new *.650 file was created, the DNP 3.0 configuration menu was not displayed. This issue
has been solved in this release.
• When a new *.650 file was created, 2H and 2J boards couldn’t be selected from the DNP3.0 binary
input list. This issue has been solved in this release.
G Fixed issue with Phase CT Ratio Setting through Quick Settings (F650 models with Rear Ethernet comms
board 2 B, C, D and E).
• Phase CT Ratio Settings sometimes did not change properly the CT ratio when it was done through
Quick Settings. However, it worked properly when it was done through general Settings. This issue
with Quick Settings menu only applies to F650 models with Rear Ethernet Communication Board 2
option B, C, D or E), and has been solved in this FW release.
E Improvement in PLC Editor.
• Minor enhancements included in the PLC editor, including some error handling.

Upgrade path

Firmware compatibility
The 7.72 firmware is not compatible with firmware versions below 7.0x, or with any previous F650 CPU hardware, i.e.
F650 whose order code contains Rear Ethernet Communication Board option B, C, D or E. Existing B, C, D and E options
still benefit from the previous CPU hardware. The released firmware version runs only on the new models with Rear
Ethernet Communication Board options: G, H, J, K, L & M. The 7.72 firmware requires EnerVista 650 Setup software
version 8.13 or higher. GE suggests using the latest version of the software.

Upgrading 650 devices installed with firmware versions below 7.0x requires replacement of the complete relay. New
relays require choosing from the new [G, H, J, K, L or M] characters in the order code under the “Rear Ethernet
Communication Board 2” option.

EnerVista 650 Setup software can convert settings files from an older version to the latest version. It also provides a
tool to compare settings files from different versions, generating a Difference Report. This Difference Report identifies
new settings and additional information to assist the user during the upgrade process.

Software Compatibility
The minimum operative system requirements for the EnerVista 650 Setup software are as follows:
• Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 (Service Pack 3 recommended)
• Windows 7
• Windows 8

any known problem
E Enhancement Modification of an existing feature bringing extra value to the application
D Changed, incomplete or false Changes to, or problems with text messages, LEDs and user pushbuttons
faceplate indications
R Changed, incomplete or false Changes to, or problems with relay records (oscillography, demand, fault
relay records reports, etc.)
C Protocols and communications Changes to, or problems with protocols or communication features
M Metering Metering out of specification or other metering problems
P Protection out of specification Protection operates correctly but does not meet published specifications
(example: delayed trip)
U Unavailability of protection Protection not available in a self-demonstrating way so that corrective
actions could be taken immediately
H Hidden failure to trip Protection may not operate when it should
F False trip Protection may operate when it should not
