Single Vertical Bar Graph
What can you say about the bar graphs? How will you interpret
the bar graphs? Are the two graphs the same? How do they differ
from each other?
is It
Bar graphs can be single or double, vertical or horizontal. The
type of graphs shown above are single vertical (left) and single
horizontal (right) bar graphs. Both graphs have the same data, but
they differ in the way they are presented. A bar graph has two
axes, the horizontal axis and vertical axis. A bar graph is used to
compare data
6
from different groups or periods. Data is a collection of gathered
information (Tabilang et. al. 2015, p. 246).
Below is a single bar graph presented earlier. Now, let’s study and
analyze the graph.

Study and answer the following questions.
1. What is the title of the bar graph?
2. In the vertical bar graph, what information is placed along
the horizontal axis? on the vertical axis?
3. In the horizontal bar graph, what information is placed along
the horizontal axis? on the vertical axis?
4. What color is the favorite of most pupils?
5. How many pupils like blue?
6. What color is the second choice?
7. How many more pupils like red than green?
8. What is the total number of pupils who like red, blue, green
and yellow?
7
Another type of graph that can be presented is double bar
graph. Double bar graphs help us to compare or present more
than one kind of information instead of just one by using bars.
Like single bar graphs, double bar graphs can be vertical or
horizontal.
The graphs below are examples of double vertical and double
horizontal bar graphs. These bar graphs have two axes, the
horizontal axis and vertical axis.

Double Horizontal Bar Graph
1. What is the title of the double vertical bar graph?
2. What information is placed along the horizontal axis?
along the vertical axis?
3. What different groups of data are being compared?
4. How many boys chose basketball?
5. How many girls like swimming?
Note that bar graphs are important because they are easily
understood when comparing different groups of data. Particularly
when the data is larger, bar graph is the best option to represent it.
