Introduction:
This is the research on identification of the suitability for the Queen’s Enterprise award for new
meaning foundation. The company has it been well growing in United Kingdom and other parts
of the world. As the company is applying for the Queen’s Award, this research is going to put
forward a complete case study on its eligibility by drawing its current works and in the past,
then finely matching with the eligibility and suitability for the Enterprise award. This research
will consist of elements like company introduction, research purposes, methodology, and later
in the research a recommendation and a complete in-depth conclusion will be provided to the
company’s suitability for the enterprise award. The research purpose is essentially to define the
purpose of the research and finding the right solution for the company’s eligible criteria. Below
is the introduction for the company profile covering all its aspects sourced from the company
website and data available online.
New Meaning Foundation:
New Meaning Foundation is a charity focused on building affordable, modern, and sustainable
homes for people who have experienced homelessness. Offering training, patient employment
and hope for those living in poverty or disadvantage. This company has the location based in
water beach called as Barracks and developed for the ex-homeless people. This location
company is gently suitable for the Micro homes. On the other hand, the New Meaning
Foundation is also involved in running the functional skillsets like English, Maths and
Employability, this is exclusively built for the homeless people to make them more employable.
Whilst there is also provision for the construction skills given to the people associated with the
company in one or the other ways around with the New Meaning Foundation, at the same centre
and across east Anglia. This centre focuses on the smaller, informal and in supporting the

The company new meaning Foundation is the sister organisation to the new meaning group.
New Meaning Foundation is a charity registered in England and Wales. It builds homes for the
ex-homeless and provides training and patient employment for the ex-homeless, NEET people
and other people experiencing hardship. It is also the sole doner and founder of MOJO
Foundation, a charity registered in The Gambia.
All surplus income is reinvested in training, development, and provision of new employment
opportunities for those in poverty and hardship. It is also to be identified and acknowledged in
the contribution for the enterprise award. The New meaning foundation was established by
David Lett and John Evans in the year 2006 and today this company includes organisations and
initiatives such as new meaning Training and New meaning Construction. In understanding the
company’s growth and spread we will analysing the company’s overall work and its association
and the partnership to make a strong case for the Award’s eligibility and or identifying the
areas of growth for future in the recommendation part. Below is the mention of the company’s
subsidiaries and its initiatives.
Mojo Foundation, is the charity organisation and the MoJo construction Ltd. Is also the charity
non-for-profit social enterprise in the construction industry? This is funded by the New
meaning Foundation. This company has the block making location at Tabokoto and made sure
the clay blocks are the environmentally friendly and called to be the safer to the normal used
cement blocks of grey colour. By these initiatives, it is to be noted here that the company is

making its clay and blocks friendly for the environment and good for nature, indeed making a
strong output in the construction of the buildings. In these areas the company like Jambur and
in the western region of the Gambia, its preparing to build 3 bedroom and 4-bedroom modern
houses for sale and employing young adults or those who are previously employed. The
company is catering and taking care of the people are homeless or ex-homeless and the people
who are previously or currently unemployed and giving them the opportunity and skills to grow
in their career. This initiative particularly, has the vision to convert all the profits they get to
the profit of the Gambian people and locally by recycling this into the training, working
experience, jobs opportunity and in the form of bursaries for the people in the local region.
Secondly, the company vision is also providing funds to attend college and support to earn
owns leaving for two people on every one of their employees. Thirdly, the company is
committed to reinvestment of any kind of schemes into a second community enterprise village
built by Gambians. These initiatives also can buy a plot or offer plans and self-built
opportunities to the locals in the Gambia region, help the people in finances like during the
case of developing the building for the locals and they also work in the areas such as project
management, designs, build and other initiatives. (NMF, 2020)
New meaning Training, i.e., the company’s another initiative, is also one of the sister
companies. This company runs a various number of alternative education centres across the
region for supporting the locals and people in the region. This company is self-sufficient and a
social enterprise operating stand alone. This initiative of the company is plainly focused on
encouraging the creativity, entrepreneurial spirit and cultivating the passions among the people
they are associated with in the local region. The ethics and ethos of the company aligns to the
new meaning social enterprise philosophy of helping people get where they wanted to be in
their career and are those interested in creating social enterprise their way the journey. This
also supports in the helping find the people strength. New meaning training New Meaning
Training knows that the formality and structure of mainstream education doesn’t work out for
everyone. There can be a multitude of reasons for low attainment and engagement. Coming
away from secondary school without the normal progression pathway keys, like English and
Maths qualifications, can mean that young people feel a sense of hopelessness and failure.
Sometimes this is expressed as disinterest and negativity, but the reality for many is that they’ve
not yet tuned into something that works for them. It’s like something needs to flick the switch.
Or it may be that there have been other life experiences that have been blocking their path. This
company operates in five countries, and it say, quote

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious awards for UK business, designed
to recognise and encourage outstanding achievements in the fields of Innovation, International
Trade, Sustainable Development and Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility).
Analysing the New meaning foundation, the company’s main strength is found to be in the
various categories in the queen’s award. First and primarily in the promoting opportunities, in
the sustainability, and in the Innovation. Later, in this report we will be explaining the reason
for the same with giving a proper explanation to the eligibility for these two categories. In the
literature review, below we’re going to study the current company’s or the previous ones that
have successfully secure the Enterprise Award and drawing comparison with the queen’s
award. This section will also critically analyse the literature. (Anon., 2021)
Phoenix Health and Wellbeing: Sustainable Development
Phoenix Health and Wellbeing the winner for the Queen’s Enterprise Award for the year 2021
in the category: Sustainable development. The company generates all the revenue from their
own charitable trust and the social enterprise. The company is passionate about the social
enterprise and the sustainability. They have their social enterprise that is been developed to do
their all-charitable work they are doing. This company is also generating the income from the
public and local business, and they don’t receive any statuary grants from any organisations or
so ever. This company has gone from no clients to supporting 400 individuals each year with
just their independent funding. The prime focus is also being the improving the quality of the
life and saving the lives. The working of the company has been past 8 years of growth. The
business model is very innovative, claim by the company and has been impressive during the
pandemic 2021. They have been involved in supporting the individuals as much as possible
they could be during the national lockdown. (Gov, 2021)
Phoenix Health and Wellbeing, situated in Leeds, employs three people and 30 sessional
therapists. People with chronic health problems and modest incomes can benefit from massage,
acupuncture, and counselling services. By delivering full-fee massage and counselling services
to the public and employee assistance to local firms, the business model produces money to
sustain this free or subsidised charitable support. The company concept exemplifies passion
and commitment to sustainable development, and it is applauded for having such a large impact
in spite of its tiny size. The company's response to Covid-19 was outstanding, with online
sessions and podcasts reaching out to the lonely and isolated. The Queen's Award for Enterprise

As the company “New meaning Foundation” has been active several years and has been well
developed in the other countries, it can notice that the work has been done hugely on the
sustainable developments and in the various other areas mainly in promoting the opportunities.
Further in the research, it will be analysed the importance and in which category the company
must be proceed and its final recommendation. But, from the above literature, the companies
in each categories case study can be seen. The new meaning foundation is well-structured
organisation with its sister organisations too operating the various countries. Supporting in the
construction and making it to be the sustainable and safe for the environment is also seen. The
company, however, doesn’t provide or showcase any information its board of trustees or the
team behind the company’s sustainable development. NMF has been working intensively in
expanding and in supporting the local people in the region which indeed makes it eligible for
the award. However, NMF has its own challenges in terms of making every product suitable

and complying with the sustainability as there is no sustainability projections or strategy in

Research Purpose
The purpose of the research is investigating the suitability of New Foundation Company for
the Queen’s Enterprise Award. In this context, this research will investigate the current
categories in the enterprise award and its eligibility criteria for the application and then
comparing it with the company’s existing provisions that would in a way match with the award
application. This segment will use the data from the UK government portal and from the
website of the company including the sister organisations for complete analysis.
This research is being conducted to look at the eligibility aspects. Diving into it, this research
the Queen Enterprise award has 4 different categories, such as innovation, international trade,
sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility (Gov, 2021). From
the companies above introduction, it can be observed that the company has been doing a lot of
work in the field of innovation, social enterprise, and sustainability, by this it gives a hint that
there is a scope for the company to apply for the queen’s award for enterprise in few of the
categories which can be cleared from the below research section. The main purpose of the
research is also to find out the outcome, if in case the company is eligible then in which
categories and what would be the recommendations for the company given from the research
for the application and successfully receiving it. In case, if the company isn’t eligible for the
enterprise award, then in this scenario what would be the best recommendation for the company
to improve and get an award or how to best present and demonstrate itself to reach the
Enterprise Award. The main reason for the research is also the fact the Queen’s award will
bring along valuable reputation and brand-name to the company in future and can also boost
the morals for the team in the company to work more harder and provide supportive
environment for the vulnerable people in the country and all other countries if operations. To
mention, the queen’s award benefits the company in various capacities such as , if the company
wins the award, they will be invited to the royal reception, will be presented with the award at
the grand ceremony by the representative of the Queen, this award winners will have the access
to fly the Queen’s award flag at the main office and can also use for the marketing purposes,
and lastly, the an official certification is also given. The above all would make real difference
to the image of the company across the globe and its presence overall. This award application
and winning can bring a successful track record for future, in this way the company
trustworthiness would highly increase and including the profits. From the evidence from the
website, it can be stated that the company’s value, its commercial revenue, and staff moral goes
up after winning the award for Queen’s Enterprise. Therefore, the research also becomes
important for the company to brag the Queen’s award. Not being very hypothetical, but the
New Foundation Meaning will have a direct implication on winning the award, in terms of
growth and value among the stakeholder’s involvement. As this Queen’s award is valid for five
years, the NMF is going to benefit and show a growing curve overall in its company
performance. In such scenario, the homeless people and under privileged people will be more
benefitted as the company’s growth. Therefore, the society will have a positive impact too
when NMF shows a growing phenomenon. Certain other evidence to prove the objective of the
research is, in long-run the company is going to be receiving a separate notice comparatively

award, which clearly stats that the NMF is also going to have similar growth when expanding
overseas in the future. From the research conducted by the university of Strathclyde, it is found
that company winning the Queen’s award has shown overwhelming 73% of the respondents
has seen direct raise in the international trade. The NMF’s application for the Queen’s award
can make a huge difference, irrespective of the fact they going to receive the award or not. As

individuals or relevant stakeholders of the company whose opinions or feedbacks is considered
to draw relevance to the application of the award. This qualitative data can be gathered from
the company’s website and articles, in particularly the segments where it goes to the categories
of the enterprise award. The quantitative data has been used from the statistics being provided
online from the company website and relevant articles. The quantitative numbers play
important role in the research as it is a measure to define success of the company and its reach
in and across the globe where it is already been expanded. This data collected is directly or
indirectly related to the Queen’s award application and its categories, specifically the
information on the sustainable projects done so far and in plans and number of people that the
company has been supporting in imparting the employable skills to them to make them
empowered. Whilst the qualitative data will complement to the quantitative data and make
supportive evidence to the main eligibility check process. These two parameters of the research
are going to play the essential role in proving a fine conclusion to the case and deriving the
recommendations. Form both qualitative and the quantitative information gathered from the
resources it can be easy to understand and present in the numbers to prove if the company is

into four different categories. It allows the applicants or the companies to go for either 1 or
more than one category to apply for the award. The award categories and its eligibility criteria
are mentioned below. In this part of the research, the author is going to investigate each
possibility of the category and comparing to the company to check which one they are not most
suitable for. As there are four categories of the award the author is going to analyse with the
stats available on the available resources to deeply navigate through the parameter of the
application process and check its availability of the specific category. Once after drawing the
analysis report from this segment, the research will put forward a strong case in the areas of
development and provide furthermore areas of improvement for the company to grow widely

Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, Categories: The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are for
outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of:

Eligibility for applying
To apply for the Queen’s Award for Enterprise your organisation must:
- Be based in the UK (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man)
- File its Company Tax Returns with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
- Be a self-contained enterprise that markets its own products or services and is under its
own management
- Have at least 2 full-time UK employees or part-time equivalents
- Demonstrate strong corporate social responsibility
- Your organisation can be a business or non-profit.

Suitability analysis:
In terms of eligibility for the award, the Queen’s award criteria are being met by the company.
From the website, it can be discovered that the company is more than 2 people staff employed
staff, it is indeed based in the UK, it has demonstrated a successful track record in providing

the strong corporate responsibility through its various initiatives and finally the company is
non-for-profit which all above makes the company eligible for the Queen’s award application.

- Prove that your organisation has achieved outstanding growth in overseas earnings
relative to your business size and sector
- Prove steep year-on-year growth (without dips) in overseas sales over 3 years - or
substantial year-on-year growth (without dips) over 6 years (Gov, 2021)
Suitability analysis:
The secondary data available on the various platform of the company lacks the data in terms
of exact analysis for the company’s eligibility in this above category. If goes in understanding
as per the available resources, it can prove that the company is having an excellent track record
in the foreign lands as it has been operating the five different countries. The company can also
be seen achieving outstanding growth as seen in the data on Gambia and the company’s
contribution overall. As the company data isn’t sufficient to prove point 3, the author would

will recover its full costs in future
- Show outstanding commercial success because of innovation over 2 years - or
continuous commercial success over 5 years

Company’s innovation should be in one of the following categories:

- Marketing and distribution

Suitability analysis:
As the NMF company is focused on the social enterprise and charity works it can’t bring its
relation to the “innovation product” or as such. However, the company has the good proven
track record in producing the innovative sustainable product for the construction of the modern
house but as this award category implies more into commercial gain and innovation in terms
of uniqueness, the NMF might likely to not stand strongly on this category compared to its
other available category in the awards. Company would be still interested in putting forward
its name into this category for its innovation under the construction sector but should be
mindful that this category is highly focusing towards being invention, design of products, after
sales of goods and services and marketing. Also, in terms of the awards “years” requirement
category the company seems to be performing not as high as it should ideally be required to
make it competitive and stand out among the companies.
Sustainable Development
Winners in this category demonstrate commercially successful sustainable development
practices. Sustainable development achievements are assessed for: invention, design, or
production of goods; performance of services; marketing and distribution; after-sale support of

emission to 65% less. This displays that the company has not only controlled the carbon
emission and saved the environment to as much possible extent but also the company has been
involved in providing standard houses supporting the people during pandemic which help them

disadvantage. Below are the best examples of the programmes that the company has been
offering in its terms as charity organisation. Through this programme, it not only develops the
skills among the individuals but also make them empower and earn for themselves to give them

New Meaning's Construction Skills Programme this is one of the training the company
provides, this is aimed at young people at the age range from 16 to 18 and some by case-by-
case basis. This program is hugely sought-after skills. They are built for the those are looking

The Work & Study programme is another program developed for the young people from 16
to 18 and few by case-by-case basis. It consists of 1-2-1 tutoring in English and Maths and
Employability. This program also provides 16 hours of work experience whilst tutoring which
indeed making the young people employable and with practical skills.

The Achieve Life skills programme is an entry level course designed to empower and support
young people in everyday fundamentals for living life more independently. The course works
towards a Diploma in Independent Living Skills, an employability award as well as English &
Maths. It includes modules on money management, independent living, accessing &
interpreting travel timetables, healthy eating, and health & safety. (NMF, 2020)

financial health and team. Through this information, it would have been more feasible to
research the other aspects that might make the company go more suitable for the same or apply
for the new category. The availability of the complete information would have added value and
might have acted as the turning point in the whole research. But the current available
information on the website and other article online made it easier investigate the company’s
health and growth. The international expansion of the company seems to be growing wide, as

various ways, such as by hosting programmes, employability opportunities and giving
a platform for the people in Gambia and in the local areas of international expansion.
Comparing it with the Queen’s award category in opportunities through social mobility,
there are four sub-criteria required for an institution to work on for winning the award.
In these aspects, NMF fulfils all the three areas very intensively with complete data and
statistics but only aspect in missing is the “mentorship” or the career advice services. It
can be the lack of availability of the information, but company must have complete data
in this area, if they are looking to apply for the Queen’s award in the category

2. Counting & collecting all work and achievements:

From the testimonies of the previous award winners and also from the government
website, the most valuable information has been found that the company applying for
the Queen’s award must not miss including any tiny information they may have. NMF,
might not acknowledge the worth of the small information it can play during the
application and in winning the award. Hence, it is strongly recommended that the
company must collect, gather, and include all the information for all the categories it is

Award for Enterprise in the category of Promoting Opportunities and secondly it can also
consider in applying in the category of sustainable developments. However, if the NMF is
considering all the information and acknowledge all the work in terms of its International Trade
and Innovation, company can consider for the application of the Queen’s award in more then
one category. The author would like to emphasis on the various elements of the information
provided on the secondary sources of information available. It should also be considered that
the amount of data available and the way all the points are covered in the application process
can affect the Queen’s award application. To also mention, that the company has been doing

company’s zeal to be not affected by any means irrespective of the results of the Queen’s award
for Enterprise. In 2021, more than 200 companies have received this award in various
