Students will be able to correctly name common music notes and read notes in a monotone
music sheet.

Students should be able to correctly name very basic music notes and know how they sound,
shown by the rhythm sticks and how well they are playing off the correct music notes.

Because of covid-19 students at the school have been stripped of an art and music teacher,
and have no option for band or choir anymore. Because of this, I wanted to try to incorporate
music and art whenever I am there in class with them. Music and art was my favorite thing to
work on in elementary school and I want to spread my joy of it to the class.
I will be starting my lesson right as the students enter the class. Students will be grabbing
chairs and sitting down at their desks to begin. I will ask students to share aloud some of their
current favorite songs as a warm up discussion. I will then share that we are going to be
learning about how to read music, starting by putting music notes up on the board along with
their names and how to read them.
I will then pass out the rhythm sticks and write an example on the board to play along to. After
a few more examples I will ask students to write down their own rhythm of 10 beats on paper
which they can share with the class if they would like.

I will be getting the class excited about music, and asking what their favorite songs
are.

I will have a class discussion, lecture, hands on learning through trial and error, and
creative opportunities for sharing with the class.
● Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to participate?)
All students will be given rhythm sticks which they can participate by playing along or
answering questions.
● Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged in the lesson?
All students will be required to try to play the rhythms and have everything else
cleared off of their desks.
● Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)
At the end of the lesson I will be asking questions on what they learned and if they
have any rhythms they can make with the notes they learned.
● Assessment (How will you assess that students achieved the lesson goals or learning targets?)
We will be using what we learned with music notes to create a fun, interactive math
warm up.
