Lesson Plan Title: Verb Tenses

Concept / Topic To Teach: Verb Tenses (Past, Present, and Future)

Grade Level: 4th grade

General Goal(s): Students will recognize and be able to differentiate the past, present,
and future tenses in literature and in writing.

Specific Objectives: Students will be able to use verb tenses correctly in their writing.

Required Materials:
-Computer
-Internet Access

Anticipatory Set (Lead-In):


The teacher will explain the meaning of the words: past, present, and future then write
examples on the whiteboard to get a general understanding. After that, write one verb
at a time on the board and have students raise their hands to show they are
understanding the concepts being taught. (Alternative-refer to slide 1 of Powerpoint)
Instruct students to take out laptops and direct them to use Canvas to open up the
activity for individual working time.

Step-By-Step Procedures:
1. Teacher-directed instruction to ensure students have a general idea of the
lesson
2. Guide students to the individual activity to see how they do on their own
3. Students will create 3 sentences using each verb tense
4. Group of 4 sorting activity matching the verbs to the correct tense

Plan For Independent Practice (Activity):


Students will have 10 sentences in total. 4 of these sentences will be true or false for
students to identify if the sentence is correct. The other 6 will require students to circle
the correct verb to fit the sentence.

Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set):


If time allows, students can present the sentences they created.
The instructor would have made time for the checking of students’ work.

Special Needs Modification:


Students will special needs can be accommodated either based on their IEP, or with
assistance from the teacher’s assistant
