This newsletter from the Navy Exchange Retired Employees Association (NEREA) provides updates on several matters of interest to its members. It reminds members to use the online scheduling tool to make appointments for Common Access Cards. It also highlights three major announcements from the DoD NAF Health Benefits Program regarding 2018 health insurance. Additionally, it announces that NEREA will hold a one-day business meeting in lieu of its annual convention and requests donations to its scholarship fund to continue providing scholarships. LETTER FROM THE
PRESIDENT
NEREA “There is a harmony in autumn, and a lustre in its sky...”

NEWS
- Percy Shelley

Dear Fellow Retirees and Friends:

Since our last Newsletter some members have

experienced major weather occurrences in the form of
flooding and wind damage to their homes, businesses,
and their lives. We hope that in the coming months you
will be able to return to your daily routine and normal
lifestyle. With the onset of the coming holiday season
we at NEREA wish you and your family Happy Chanukah,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

There are some matters that arise over the course of months between Newsletter
that need highlighted and brought to the attention of our members. The following
INSIDE THIS ISSUE are some of those matter.

Chapter Chatter We have received a number of calls from members having difficulty making an
appointment at the ID card office for a Common Access Card (CAC) in your

Did You Know Members who have health insurance through the DoD NAF Health Benefits
Program received a brochure in November 2017 that outlined the “Your 2018
Veterans Online Health Benefits Program.” There are three major announcements in the brochure
Shopping Benefit that should be of major interest to you and your family: (1) there is no increase in
health insurance premiums, unless you made an enrollment change, and (2) Teledoc

As announced in our last Newsletter, NEREA will no longer have an annual 5 day
Directory Convention beginning in 2018. In lieu of a convention NEREA will hold a one
day business meeting in Virginia Beach on Saturday, 5 May 2018. The business
meeting will consists of general interest items, update on NEXCOM Retirement
Trust, updates on retiree personnel benefits and a possible visit to NEXCOM
Headquarters followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

Through the years NEREA has been the recipient of scholarship funds provided
by the Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Logistics Association. We have
noted in prior Newsletters these funds have not been made available to NEREA for
the past four years. During this period we have relied on member contributions
to sustain our scholarship efforts. During our Convention years many Chapters
provided a significant portion of our total member funding. To continue our
scholarship program we will need the continued funding of our Chapters and
continued support of our overall membership. We are asking all members who
have not contributed to our scholarship program to consider doing so. All levels
of contributions are welcome and are appreciated. Under current IRS Regulations
contributions to the NEREA Scholarship Fund are tax deductible. Please the
