Bridging

What background knowledge Students are going through Unit 5 in their book, so I have had the
do the students already have? opportunity to teach lesson 6 and today we are moving to the next
lesson moving from grammar to reading where the simple present we
learned in lesson 6 starts the reading we do in lesson 7.
What will you do to activate We will play hangman which I will call “The snowman game” and in
or link students’ prior that game, some of the sentences they must guess will be simple
knowledge or experience to present questions using Do/Does. The last sentence they will guess is
upcoming content? “Who has a credit card?” which leads to the topic of credit and debit
cards.
Engagement with New Material
What will you do to engage I will ask them questions about what they know about credit and debit
students in the active learning cards. I will also ask them if there are different ways people pay for
of the new material? things in the store.

What will you do to ensure As I read the article, I will pause and allow them to read the next word
that all students are engaged? or phrase. This way they can be following along as I read.

meaningfully integrate
technology into your lesson?

Reflection
What went well? How do you Today was so much better! I didn’t feel as tired as I did yesterday
know? when I taught the class. I had a better knowledge of the students in the
classroom, so it was easier for me to interact with them. I was able to
build my relationship more with the class as I taught them. I knew
those who had a harder time speaking and those who were Beginning
High level. When I started off with the Snowman game, it was good
to see students who don’t usually talk, throw out a letter.
What didn’t go as planned? Everything went well today. Students participated in the lesson,
worked well in their small groups and were ready to answer questions.
Time flew by quickly.
What contingency plan did I planned to start the lesson off by playing a fun game that would get
you employ? their interest in class an uplift. It linked to the lesson and as I read the
lesson, I allowed them to read words and phrases as I read. This
showed me that they were following along. Then I went over the
directions of the exercises they needed to do and split them up into
groups where they could read the article and do the exercises together.
They had two teachers in the room and one para helping whoever
needed help or had a question. I also assigned those who were higher
level to help those around them. Then I corrected the class assignment
with the class where students had the chance to read their answers out
loud.
What would you do I didn’t do the “Show me what you know”. I do feel like they learned
differently next time? the topic, but these students are on different level and although most of
them learned, it would have been good for the students who are new to
the class and those that didn’t fully understand.
Did your students meet the My students were able to meet the purpose of the lesson and learned
purpose and objectives for the objective. They confidently gave their answers to the questions
this lesson? What is your given and at the end of my part of the lesson had no more questions to
evidence for each? ask.
What do your students need I plan to give them a worksheet that comes from a Future (extra
next? How do you know? activities) book and is tied to this chapter. They will talk more about
money tomorrow and learn a little bit about North American history
and how it ties to cash.
What did you learn about It has been a while since I’ve taught the beginning class and the
your glows and grows as a students were now different, so I was a little nervous the first day. This
teacher? What can you do to second day felt more comfortable and it was easier to interact with the
work on your areas needing students. This might fit into my glow because it doesn’t take me long
growth? to fit in with a class. I’m very open with them and try to joke with
them to make them feel comfortable and that helps bridge the gap. It
also looked like the students enjoyed the class today which makes me
happy. When I talked to their teacher later, I heard that even though
they had repeatedly heard that I was coming into their class for a few
days, they thought that I was taking over their class on my first day
teaching there. That was why they were so quiet on that day.
