Guide questions:
1. What is the message in this cartoon?
- The main idea in the cartoon is about how the political influence and pressure, hampers media
freedom from telling the truth. This idea is extremely horrifying and may affect the country’s
democratic development because of various issues and falsified news. The scary reality of journalism
is acknowledging the possibility that there may be political dictate, endangered security, and threats
going on because of how strong their influence is.
2. Is the situation about the media depicted in the cartoon true in the Philippines? Why or why not?
- Yes, very much. Falsified news in the Philippines was troublesome as social media played a much
broader part in political power. According to media experts, third world developing countries
including Philippines, with generally new access to social media and democracy, feel the issue of fake
news to a greater degree. In rare cases, there are also politicians that manipulate media by paying a
large amount money to trolls and fake news outlets to spread misinformation during campaigns. The
trolls then use personal threats and attacks to netizens and journalists which are really very chilling
and below the belt.

3. Does the cartoon show a challenge or an opportunity? Why do you say so?
- This is obviously a challenge. Politics may also have a huge effect on media as often, but
not directly. Influential political leaders and even the government can control or affect the
output of the media. This is pretty much one of the challenges of media in politics, the reality
or facts that the media disseminates may be distorted by external forces. This is considered as
a propaganda, where it is a communication which is mainly used to manipulate the viewer
and thereby to advance the agenda. It is mostly inaccurate, skewed, or selectively portrayed.
