Pre-Final Examination: Julius B. Bolina

This document discusses the results of a summative assessment given to a class of 20 students. It provides the mean, mode, median, range, variation, and standard deviation of the students' scores. It also includes sample calculations for finding the standard deviation. The document poses several essay questions about grading systems and assessment policies. It discusses the importance of grading systems in providing feedback to students and information to support their education. It also addresses the strengths of DepEd's classroom assessment guidelines and how to address common issues with grading, such as whether it provides useful feedback or motivates students. Finally, it notes that deciding on a grading system is complex, as report cards can only provide brief summaries, and that self-assessments

1. Cite the importance of having different grading systems of the Department of

Education.

 The purpose of a grading system is to give feedback to students so they can

take charge of their learning and to provide information to all who support
these students.
 The grading system ensures that students, families, teachers, counselors,
advisors, and support specialists have the detailed information they need to
make important decisions about a student’s education.

2. What do you think are the strengths of the policy guidelines on classroom
assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education, DepEd Order no. 8. S. 2015 compare with
the previous assessments?
 Classroom Assessment is an integral part of curriculum implementation. It allows
the teachers to track and measure learners’ progress and to adjust instruction
accordingly. Classroom assessment informs the learners, as well as their parents
and guardians, of their progress.

3. How could we cope up with the four questions of grading? Cite possible actions.
 Does grading provide feedback to help students understand and improve their
deficiencies? ...
 Does grading motivate students to learn? ...
 Is grading on a curve the fairest way to grade? ...
 Do grades provide reliable information about student learning?

4. Prove/Disprove
Assessment of student performance is essentially knowing how the student is
progressing in a course.

 PROVE because base the performance of assessment, the learners know and
measure how well learners apply their knowledge, ideas, skill and knowing the
abilities of the student if learners learn by the teacher.

5. Why is that the process of deciding on a grading system is a very complex one? Cite
and explain the strengths and weaknesses of alternative grading and give suggestions
related to it.
 There are many factors to consider. In addition, report cards typically
summarize in brief format a variety of assessments and so cannot
provide much information about students' strengths and weaknesses.
Self-assessments are another way to track student progress. Students
consider the goals and learning objectives relevant to an assignment and
then evaluate their work’s quality in light of those standards. Their self-
assessments identify their strengths and weaknesses, giving them a
chance to see where they may need to improve.
