What I Have Learned
 A.
   1. “It is easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our
      responsibilities.” ~Josiah Charles Stamp
Josiah Charles Stamp once said, “It is easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge
the consequences of dodging our responsibilities.” This quote has truly stuck with me when I read it.
I always struggled with personal responsibility, trying to understand exactly what it meant. Personal
responsibility means taking charge of my actions and myself, as a senior high school student, I realized
success, both in college and life, starts with personal responsibility, and is shaped by the ethical lens I
see the world through, which is why I have made a plan to practice and hone personal responsibility
      in my education.
As I will be going to college and will be facing difficult situations, most I have put myself into,
I have learned a few areas of improvement for my responsibility. I know that college success is reliant
heavily on the choices I will make. Nobody is there to make sure my work gets done; it is my
responsibility. College professors assume a degree of personal responsibility from their students,
unlike the constant watchful eye of teachers in high school. Taking personal responsibility for what
needs to get done and stepping up to the plate to make sure what is expected of me is completed, and
completed to the standards expected or higher. Personal responsibility and success in college go hand
in hand. The raw materials to be successful in college are in me, understanding and molding the
materials are my next step to success.
Currently, I can define personal responsibility for my own life and want it. I know I can face
the challenge of becoming a personally responsible college student next year. I am ready to take charge
and make my own success both in college and life in general. I know the strengths that will lift me to
my highest level of success and am also mindful of the weaknesses that are lurking around the corner,
but I am ready to face them and learn from those weaknesses. I have a plan to follow and resources
around me to help make this challenge a success. I am going to face my personal responsibilities head-
on and no longer have to face the consequences of dodging those responsibilities.
2. “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or
the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you can have charge of.” ~Jim Rohn
Jim Rohn once said, “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the
circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have
charge of.” This is a quote that my mom read to me a few years ago. I think the quote is flawed. I agree
that one must take personal responsibility. Life is all about making good choices, the right choices, for
ourselves. If we make a mistake, instead of whining about it, it is up to us to own the choice and change
the outcome. By changing yourself, your choices, and owning your actions, you can change your
circumstances and, many times, the circumstances of others that your choices have affected. The
definition of responsibility is “the state or fact of being responsible, answerable, or accountable for
something within one's power, control, or management.” Responsibility means to me to be in charge
of my life and not have excuses for the circumstances that come in life. Being responsible is part of a
successful life. Being responsible gives ethical-moral principles that govern a person's or group's
   behavior.
I have a pretty busy life. I am a student and a server in church. These two things are my life. I
am responsible for having to manage my responsibilities in the church and as a top achiever in school,
doing my school works on time, and studying for midterms and final exams. It is my responsibility to
make sure that my parents and loved ones are proud of me. The primary reason I am able to accomplish
all of this well is because of time management and responsibility, these two are both ties together. It’s
simple if people are on time for work that shows that they are reliable and honorable, and it shows how
   responsible you are.
This is why responsibility is so important. It’s a daily part of life. In my life, church, school,
and work are my responsibilities. Practicing with the choir, doing homework and studying, and being
a student acts of good faith and responsibility. Responsibility also makes your life easier because as
you do things right everything comes your way and you become successful. People will be able to trust
individuals because they know that you are mature in that matter of being responsible.

         True False Personal Responsibility
T - I do what needs to be done.
          T - I am reliable and dependable.
T - I never make excuses or blame others for my actions.
T - I always follow through on my commitments.
         True False Social Responsibility
T - I do my part for the common good.
T - I volunteer in my school or community.
          T - I participate in community service.
T - I do what I can to help take care of the environment.
I think I am/am not a responsible person because:
I consider myself a responsible person because I like getting my school works done before the due
date. This may sound simple but there are people that are irresponsible and don’t care if the homework is
already due they just turn it in late. And I prefer doing it in advance so I can just be done with it. This can help
me for school and my future job because being responsible and finishing my work done correctly and on time
will give me good grades and I will be able to graduate and find a job where I will be responsible too. I also
believe that I am a responsible individual since I am aware of my responsibilities and limitations. Being
independent entails taking on more responsibilities. In many ways, I believe I am free, but in others, I am not.
But that's fine. The feeling of not having enough freedom helps us to recognize our limitations and how to be
more conscious of our actions. I am able to take responsibility because I know what to do in many of the
circumstances I've encountered, not only for myself but also for others. In some ways, I have complete freedom
over my choices and actions, but, certain people have the ability to persuade me to change my mind and
prevent me from doing something.
