MEMO
TO: Vice President for Academic Affairs
FROM: President of the Supreme Student Body
DATE: June 11, 2022
SUBJECT: Academic Honesty Policy
It has come to our attention that there has been a rampant practice of
dishonest academic behavior among the students in our university. We would
like to express our concern through this letter as we extremely prohibit any
types of cheating that will break the academic integrity of the university. This
memo will also serve as an eye opener prior to the events that are
occasionally taking place during this period of time.
I'm hoping that professors will give us better advice on this matter. I propose
holding a special discussion to the students to address the current situation
and struggle on behalf of the student body in order to support our academic
honesty policy. My suggestions for the discussion at the meeting:
Emphasize the importance of giving credits to the original author or
owner.
Teachers should have more regular discussions about plagiarism.
Explaining the practice of citation better to the students.
To prepare us for any given situation that would escalate to academic
dishonesty. We want to suggest that professors and instructors should
heavily impose the use of educational tools like Grammarly, Turnitin, and
Safe assign for students to have a coherent grammar check. They will have
an improved grades and learn the importance of fact-checking and
plagiarism. The teacher's guidance will also establish a healthy environment
for students so that they can voice their concerns at ease and help clear
misunderstandings and tensions between them. A thorough orientation from
the start would remind students to draw boundaries and comply with rules
and regulations. Professors should emphasize do's and don'ts to avoid
academic mishaps and cheating.
We in the Supreme Student Body would like to thank all of you for your
patience, compassion, and utmost respect throughout our academic journey
in Mapua. Rest assured that we will work the hardest to retain the integrity of
the University. The following situation is a test for all of us to overcome so
that we continue to strive in every way possible. We will stay trustworthy and
committed until the end for our individual achievements and the glory of
Mapua University.
