1.0 SCOPE:

This test procedure shall be used to check after the first weld pass of the weld joint of
shell to annular plate.

This procedure details out the requirements of kerosene leak test for single sided /
single layer weld joints that are accessible from back side for visual examination.

2.0 PURPOSE:

The purpose of this procedure is provide a necessary guide line to carry out oil-chalk
test to check the weld joint of shell to annular plate.

3.0 SURFACE PREPARATION:

- Weld shall be thoroughly cleaned by hand wire brush or rotary wire brush to
remove oil, grease, slag, rust and free from any substances that may cause and
indication during the application of the chalk.

- Weld shall be visually inspected and unacceptable defects if any shall be repaired
by grinding / grinding and welding.

- Oil leak test shall be carried out only when the surface temperature of the area to be
examined is not less than 5 qC and not more than 52 qC.

4.0 APPLICABLE CODE AND REFERENCE:

API 650 Sec (Clause 7.2.4 (d)) / ASME Section V article 6).

5.0 PROCEDURE:

After completion of root weld of the inside of the shell to bottom plate joint. Chalk
solution will be applied to the root weld uniformly.

Ensure chalk solution is sufficiently dry prior to application of penetrating oil (light
diesel or high flash point oil).

During visual examination, a minimum 1000 lux of visible light must be present.

6.0 INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA:

After the application of the penetrant oil, hold it as per the instruction of the Engineer-
in-charge. (Duration time shall be minimum - 4 hrs. for light diesel, high flash point
penetrating oil) API 650 Cl 7.2.4 (d) Edition XI

Examine the root weld visually for the evidence of wicking.

7.0 REPAIR AND RETEST:

If any defect found then the same shall be repaired as per the approved procedure.

Re- examines the repair spot and additionally minimum 150mm. for repair spot on
both directions.

Repeat the process until there is no evidence of leaking.

After completion of the test thoroughly clean the joint from both sides for the further
welding.

9.0 INSPECTION REPORT:

Test shall be carried out jointly with the SERT engineer in charge and the
company's representative/inspector (PMC).

Acceptance of the test will be to the concurrence of the PMC representative.

Test to be recorded in the approved format.
