Topic: Introduction to Phonetics in English

The Department of Languages conducted a guest lecture in English on the 28th of October 2020. The
resource person - Dr Grace Sunita Didla, Assistant Professor, Department of Phonetics, English and
Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, spoke on the topic - Introduction to Phonetics in English,
introducing the students of semester I to the 44 sounds in English and their pronunciation. Dr Grace
made the session very interesting by involving the science behind the articulation of sounds by the
human mouth and how the different parts of the mouth are used in producing each sound. later, she
walked the students through a series of slides that helped them to identify the correct pronunciation of
many words in English. The session was very interactive and ended with many students requesting for
more such sessions.

Topic: Technological/Computational Skills in Telugu & Sanskrit

The Department of Languages conducted a combined guest lecture for Telugu and Sanskrit on two
consecutive days - 21 and 22 October 2020, for the undergraduate students of semesters I and III. The
speaker - Dr. Rajendra Kumar Verma, introduced the students to computational linguistics tools for
language teaching, and elaborated on the topics: typing in Telugu and Sanskrit, the different types of
Indic tools, Google keyboards, how to install keyboards from the Google play store, using google
input tools online for Sanskrit and Telugu typing.
Report on Guest Lecture - French
Topic: The Illustrious History of French Literature
Resource Person: Dr. Rajendra Mrs. M Padma Sri – Asst. Professor & Head – Dept. of Second
Languages, St Joseph‟s Degree & PG College, Koti, Hyderabad.

An online guest lecture was organized by the Department of Languages for the French students. Mrs
M. Padmasri , Head of the department (Languages) and Assistant Professor of French, St. Joseph‟s
Degree & PG College Hyderabad delivered a discourse on the topic “The Illustrious History of French
Literature”. She delivered an enriching lecture on the prominent French literary personalities,
novelists, playwrights and poets and also gave, in brief, a chronological representation of History of
French Literature. The lecture ended with an interactive session with the students.

The Department of Languages conducted an online guest lecture in Hindi on Friday, 25th September
2020, using Microsoft Teams. The resource person was Mr. Rajendra Prasad Verma and the topic for
the Guest lecture was " Role of Mobile and Computer in daily work and Indian Language
Advanced Information Technology ". Around 100 students and faculty members of the Department
of Languages attended the lecture.
Mr. Rajendra Prasad Verma is Assistant Director, Hindi Teaching Scheme, Department of Official
Languages, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Pune Maharashtra.
In his lecture he spoke about Hindi Computer Typing and Hindi Stenography in Unicode as well as
various software development tools, Hindi to English, providing information on translation software,
dictation in state language, Hindi dictation software, exploratory state language etc., presentation of
tool development and introduction of how to use it.
The lecture given by the Chief Guest in the webinar was very informative for all the teachers as well
as students. Dr. C. Kameswari, Head, Department of Languages, shared that it was a great experience
to be a part of such an informative and helpful session and more sessions of such kind would definitely
change the way of working from hard work to smart work. The lecture ended with a vote of thanks

Topic: Proficiency in English as an Employability Skill
Resource Person: Dr. Gopinath V. Bhagavatula

The faculty of English, Department of Languages, organized a Guest Lecture on „Proficiency in
English as an Employability Skill‟.The lecture was held on 31st July 2019 in seminar hall, MBA
block,for the II year U.G. students. Dr. Gopinath V. Bhagavatula, Professor of English at CMR
Institute of Technology, Medchal, was the resource person for the Guest Lecture. The lecture began
with elucidation of the terms Proficiency, Employment, Skill and Career. The speaker made a thought
provoking demonstration of the fact that language is a prerequisite for thoughts and ideas. The cycle of
Language, Thinking, Communication and Skill was explained in the context of employment and
employability skills.
The evolution of the human intellect and its immense capacity to acquire, store, process and use the
language was explained using various examples. The speaker expounded on the changes the language
has undergone and the need for students to update their vocabulary to meet the employment needs.
The concept of the four worlds - Home, School, College, Workplace and the ever growing importance
of English in these worlds was explained convincingly.
The session then came to its focal point, Job Interview and its prerequisites. The same was
demonstrated through an amusingly thought-provoking video titled ' The Origins of Job Interview'. A
handout containing a questionnaire encompassing aspects related to language, communication, soft
skills, hard skills, anagrams and some brain teasers was administered to the students. It also included a
sample resume.
An audio visual of the popular Hollywood actor, Denzel Washington's award acceptance speech at
NAACP Image Awards reinforced the message that "Ease is a greater threat to progress than
hardship." The lecture concluded with a short Question and Answer session followed by Vote of
Thanks proposed by Mrs. MadhuriMathur, Assistant Professor (English).
