20Cs2008L - Computer Networks: Simulation of Lan Topology - HTTP, Dns & DHCP

The document describes a lab experiment to simulate a LAN topology using Packet Tracer and configure DHCP, DNS, and HTTP. It explains that DHCP is used to automatically assign IP addresses to devices on the network. DNS associates domain names with IP addresses and other resources on the Internet. HTTP is the protocol for distributed hypermedia information systems like the World Wide Web. The procedures describe how to set up a DHCP server to assign addresses, an HTTP server, and a DNS server to map names to the HTTP server's IP address. Screenshots confirm the topology was built and servers were configured successfully.

SIMULATION OF LAN TOPOLOGY – HTTP, DNS & DHCP
Date:14/01/2021

AIM: To design simple topology with packet tracer and configure HTTP, DNS and DHCP
using Packet Tracer.

DESCRIPTION:
DHCP: The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol is a network management protocol used on
Internet Protocol networks for automatically assigning IP addresses and other communication
parameters to devices connected to the network using a client–server architecture.
DNS: The Domain Name System is the hierarchical and decentralized naming system used to
identify computers, services, and other resources reachable through the Internet or other Internet
Protocol networks. The resource records contained in the DNS associate domain names with other
forms of information.
HTTP: The Hypertext Transfer Protocol is an application layer protocol in the Internet protocol
suite model for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia information systems.

PROCEDUE:
SETTING A DHCP SERVER:
1. Go to config -> fastethernet -> set IP address and subnet mask
2. Click on the DHCP server -> Services -> DHCP
3. Click save and close
4. Click on any device -> Desktop -> IPConfig
5. Switch from static to Dynamic
SETTING A HTTP SERVER:
1. Go to services and switch HTTP to ON
SETTING A DNS SERVER:
1. Go to services -> DNS -> ON
2. Give resource record name -> IP address of HTTP server in address Field
3. Click Add
