LESSON PLAN IN TEACHING LITERATURE


(Grade 7 – Philippine Literature)
Fourth Quarter

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of: contemporary Philippine Literature as a means
of responding to the demands of the global village; various extended text types; using lexical cues;
appropriate and polite oral language, stance, and behavior; and use of imperatives, prepositions, verbs and
wh-questions.

Program Standard: The learner demonstrates communicative competence through his/her understanding of
literature and other texts fro a deeper appreciation of Philippine Culture and those of other countries.

LEARNING COMPETENCIES

1.(EN7LT-IV-b-2.2) Explain how the elements specific to a genre contribute to the theme of a particular literary
selection.
2. (EN7V-IV-b-12.3) Use lexical and contextual cues in understanding unfamiliar words and expressions.

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, students are able to:

B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation
“Box Relay” game. Inside the box are set of questions. The learners will pass the box as the song
goes and when it stops the one who holds the box will pull out one question and answer it.
2. Presentation
a. Unlocking of Difficult Words
The teacher will ask the students to answer the activity on page 439 to 410 of their book.
Using the Morse code, guess the words that is being defined in each item.

b. About the Author:


ACSI Philippines Dr. Lolita M. Andrada  is a former Director IV of the Bureau of Secondary
Education, Department of Education. Concurrently she served as the Project Manager of the
Secondary Education Development and Improvement Project (SEDIP). She initiated the adoption of
standards in the basic education curriculum and the focus on teaching and assessing
for understanding and transfer as key features of the curriculum reform in secondary education. She
chaired the modelling of the Senior High School Program of DepEd. She has published various
articles in education journals and other publications. She has a Ph.D.in Education from the University
of South Australia and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of the Philippines.
At present, she is one of the Phoenix Publishing House Educational Foundation consultants.

Before reading the story, teacher will show on video how to knit.
This time, the learners will read orally the story A Shawl for Anita by Lolita M.
Andrada by group.

d. Analysis
Numbers will be assigned to each learner and randomly picked to answer the questions
below.
1. Who narrates the story?
2. Who are the characters in the story?
3. Among the characters, who is so frail but never stopped working?
4. What actions did the mother does?
5. Who is the child that the Mother take care the most?
6. In what way did the mother stay the same?
7. Why does Anita keep on requesting something from the mother despite her mother’s
condition.
8. How did the events contribute to the development of the narrator?
9. What specific change happened to the narrator.
10. What kind of character is the narrator?

e. Application:
1. What was the most exciting part of the story?
2. What can you say about the narrator’s attitude? Was it positive or negative? Why?
3. Based on the story, how does change affect people’s decisions in life?
4. If nothing ever change, what do you think will happen in people’s lives?
5. As a student, how do changes become essential to your life?

f. Abstraction:
1. What do you think is the message of the story?
2. How are you going to describe a mother’s love?

IV. EVALUATION
The class will be divided into four (5) groups. Then each group will be given different activities for
them to accomplish. They will be graded based on the rubrics provided by the teacher.

Group 1: Make a role play showing Mother’s Love/Sacrifice.

Group 2: Using a graphic organizer, write the qualities of a mother and explain each quality.

Group 3. Sequence events in the story. The learners shall identify 5 major events/ details in the story
and write them in a correct sequence.

Group 4: Compare and contrast the development of the dynamic character in the story.

Group 5: Think of a song that could best express the love of a mother to her children. Sing it in front
of the class.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Direction: In a ½ sheet of paper, write a reflection about the story of “A Shawl for Anita” and relate it to real
life situations.
