sanken construction is one of the leading construction company in Sri Lanka. This success
was achieved by team work of sanken members. Excellent leadership, hardworking,
efficiency, punctuality and high quality of service are the key points to gain this kind of
great success in the industry. Sanken is an owner of larger no of various machinery and
equipment that are used to construction with worlds’ latest technology. As well as sanken
has lager skilled and unskilled labor force to handle lager scale projects. And also it has a
self- development program for its labor force (Skills Training and Management).hence its
labor force getting skilled with the time.
Sanken has its own ready-mix plants, machinery management systems, pilling company
MEP section and also designing section. In construction field Sanken do not depend any
outside party, because with wide range of services Sanken can survive in any situation in
construction problem.
1.4.2 Weaknesses
Sanken has a very tide schedule and quality production, so its machinery and its human
work force use optimum to get the ultimate goal of the quality and on time finishing. So, all
the workers and office members including trainees have to work under pressure at all the
time (no leaves every day have to work normally more than 8 hours). Eventually with the
time efficiency and quality control of members and workers reduces due to very tide
schedule. As well as attention to the safety also reduces with the time. Hence for low level
staff members and engineers don’t have time or opportunity to do their higher studies; hence
they sometimes leave the sanken to do their higher studies. As this way sanken lose their
highly experienced and well educated labor force. In the short run it’s economical but if
5
experienced and educated people will not demand to work in sanken so it will be a
disadvantage for long run.
1.4.3 Opportunities
Sanken has large scale of gravity to get a huge construction work. Sri Lanka is under
developing. Hence there is going large scale hotel buildings and other infrastructure
projects. Nowadays sanken has large projects at finishing stage. So sanken have opportunity
to have some of these kinds of huge projects that are planning to start near future.
Sanken is a stable company in Sri Lanka so; it can increase the demand of well-educated
peoples to jobs. This can be improve by providing higher study facilities for the members it
will improve the quality of work force of the sanken staff. Sanken mainly focused for
building side, but there is lot of projects on roads and bridges sides. Sanken also can get
opportunity form that side by obtaining proper educated peoples.
When talk about sanken it has well skilled labors and professionals. Hence they finally do a
great quality job in time. So sometimes even if there is huge gap between biding values,
clients give opportunity to sanken. That kind of trust is available at sanken. Sanken have
good possibility to win bid with high profit margin. So this opportunity can be get for future
projects to get larger profits.
Sanken have overseas project also. So sanken has opportunity to get latest technologies and
overseas contracts by these kinds of projects.
1.4.4 Threats
Major threat is government now gives their priority to give their projects to government
construction cooperation. Majority of the construction work are done by the government. So
we must concern that thing. As well as government provide funds to raise their cooperation
technology and quality of work force. So latest technologies must be adapted to sanken to
have our standards up to date.
Nowadays other construction companies develop themselves with the boom of construction
field. So they tend to get well educated and well experienced professionals to their staff and
they provide more facilities for them. Hence we must protect sanken job demand by
providing more facilities for them.
1.5 USEFULNESS TO THE COUNTRY
As one of the major construction company in the country It had provided large no of
infrastructure for the country that are generate more job opportunities and forcing currency
to the country like hotel and apartment buildings. By using knowledge and technology large
no of huge constructions were carried out that can be given to forcing construction
companies. That saves the money of the country. As well as lots of job opportunities had
6
been generated from larger professionals to unskilled labors within the country. There is
large no of forcing projects that are undergoing through the Sanken Overseas; those projects
generate lots of lots offering currency to Sri Lanka. As well as they provide professionals to
get foreign construction exposure to Sri Lankan professionals.
