Improvement through automation in textile industry

Introduction:-
The textile industry in the Pakistan is the largest manufacturing industry of the country. Pakistan
is 8th biggest exporter of textile in Asia. The textile sector contribute 8.5% in the GDP of the
Pakistan. Textile industry covers the 45% total labor force of the country. Pakistan is the 4 th
biggest cotton producer with 3rd biggest spinning capacity in the Asia after India and China.
Pakistan contributes 5% to the spinning capacity of the globe.

Pakistan economy stands at 27th biggest economy with 488 billion USD in the terms of
purchasing power parity. Pakistan is the industrialized economy. Pakistan export large number of
cotton and other textile products to other countries and play very vital role in the progress of the
country. There are lots of peoples attached with textile industry and ear from them. All the world
re owned brands are also manufactured here which can keep the high standard of international
quality. The textile industry organized in Pakistan in 1957. The textile industry is the pillar of the
Pakistan economy. Pakistan is the 4th biggest producer of cotton yarn and clothes in the world
and also second in the export of yarn and 3rd in clothes export. The Pakistan textile sector in 2011
has very impressive growth of 38%. The automation is the special type of process where it is
possible to increase the productivity in less time with high efficiency using the modern
technology and automated equipment. The meaning of the automation is to reduce the workload
from man power in the different sector of the factory. The automation is the process where we
get the things done automatically. Now the automation system traced back to textile such as
spinning, knitting, dying, printing, etc. Automation has empowered the material business to build
the efficiency by different occasions that too at a much lower cost. As we move towards the
future, more progressions are relied upon to happen to diminish the power prerequisite of
material hardware, speeding up and productivity. Automation has empowered the material
business to expand the usefulness by various occasions that too at a much lower cost. As we
move towards the future, more headways are relied upon to occur to decrease the power
prerequisite of material hardware, speeding up and proficiency. Furthermore, it's inevitable
before the material business turns out to be completely computerized

The textile industry of Pakistan have the important position in the exports of the Pakistan. The
textile industry have the main driver of the Pakistan economy for the last 50 years. The textile
industry will be the important factor for the future growth of the economy. The geographical
position of Pakistan is the favorite for the international trade. Pakistan share northern border with
Chine eastern border with India and the western border share with Afghanistan.

The development in this sector since past few years in remarkable. At the time of independence
there are only two textile mills in Pakistan these are Okara textile mills, and Lyallpur cotton
mills which is located in Faisalabad. With the time past this sector developed and finally
Pakistan becomes 4th biggest textile exporter. Now the Faisalabad is called the manchister city of
Pakistan. The lots of textile industry were established here. Pakistan faced many crises like
energy crises, yarn prices, shortage of gas supply and the load shadding, law and order in the
country. Devaluation of Pakistani rupee. Pakistan produce goods in cheaper cost compared with
western countries. Many international brands currently operate in Pakistan and work with the
local industry like H&M, Levis, Target, Puma, Adidas, and Nike etc.
Spinnig:-

Pakistan is contribute the 5% to the world spinning capacity after India and China. The spinning
is the beginning of the chain once the raw fiber is going through ginnig. All the processes added
like weaving, knitting, processing.

Weaving:-

The three different sub-sectors have in the weaving industry. Independent weaving, Integrated,
and the units of the power looms.

There are machine systems that can be conveniently directed to change their mode and sequence
of operations by means of software instructions.

These programable systems requires high of

 Consistency
 Precision
 Repeatability
 Adatability

Basic requirements of textile industry

Productivity:- By consumed resources get the effectiveness.

Efficiency:- Doing things rightly.

Today the robots and automation are broadly used in textile industry. The robotics in textile
industry make the work and the production effective rather then man power. The chances of the
errors and on time delivery reduced. In the global market the survival in the competition of
textile industry depends on the modern technology automation and robotics which are used from
designing to production process. There is no doubt that the automation is increasing the
production reduce the number of faults and also reduce the overall production cost. The world is
demanding for the good quality clothes have low production costs and these are possible by
adopting the automation. The benefits of robots in textile industries are like labor saving,
improve the quality of the product, Improved the safety, Increase the productivity and efficiency.

Some robots used in textile industry

 Fabric handler
 Embroidery
 Robots for folding
 Robots of packing

Weaving is best portrayed by between binding, commonly at right points, two arrangements of
strings to shape fabric, a mat or probably different sorts of woven materials. Today obviously
this movement is generally computerized notwithstanding efficiently manufactured, yet the
quality and the appeal of hand tailored, hand woven mats and dress is limitless. Weaving is a
significant interaction in material assembling, which maneuvers strings toward a plumb
interlocking diagram, which structures fabric.

Computerization or programmed control, is the utilization of different control frameworks for

working gear like hardware, processes in industrial facilities, boilers and hotness treating
broilers, exchanging in phone organizations, controlling and adjustment of boats, airplane and
different applications with insignificant or decreased human intercession. A few cycles have
been totally mechanized.
Automation advantages in textile industry
 Less working hours for the same production

The automation make it possible that that tasks performed by the employees are performed with
automated system contain less time. Comparative developments of mechanization were made
determined to make material related positions simpler to perform and with less human work.

 Safe working conditions

The automation providing the more safe environment to the employees. The textile industry
converts various clothes and fibers into the fabrics. Automation has made hardware to deal with
the majority of these cycles, making working conditions more secure for all in the material
business.

 Better quality products

The quality of the product stand at the top of the any company. And this is also for the textile
industry. When the humans are worked then there is the chances of errors. If that worked
performed by the automated system then there are less chances of errors and have to get the
better quality of the product.

Disadvantages of automation in the textile industry

 Big investment

In the many countries of the world the textile industry pay to there employees very low. The use
of machinery and other equipment that come with the very high cost. After that the maintenance
cost and the availability of the parts have cost of thousand some times million of dollars.

 Decrease of skills of the workers

With the automation in the textile industry complete the bulk of duties, There is no need to have
to search for the high skilled workers to do there duties. Some times the lack of skills are proved
costly in some situations. For example, a high level skilled worker fix the problems regarding
machinery and equipment rather a worker which have low level of skills take more time to fix
that problem.

Effects of automation

Automation improve the quality and productivity in garments industry and mills. The
productivity increased because the automation have resulted in the reduction of the overall the
human power in the industry. And there is also decline in man power due automation and have
the good productivity and enhancement in production due to the automation.

Future of textile industry

The research and the development is done in the textile machinery to achieve the further
enhancement and automation. Now there is further improvements in production and quality and
also bring down the costs. The achievements are taking by reduce the power requirements and
space for the textile machinery. Increase their speed and efficiency and productivity. The
automation technologies helps the textile industry too get more output at the minimum cost.

The benefits getting through automation

 Improved the productivity with the minimum cost

 Better quality
 Energy saver
 The customer satisfaction improved
 Efficient packaging

Threats to the industry

At the starts of any industry its face many types of threats. suppose lack of large orders, repeated
style change in product, less price negotiable ,lack of unskilled and skilled labor, more wages
and cost of facilities, energy cost increased and un availability of sufficient energy, complying
with international standards hidden cost occurred, law and ordered delay in production, tax and
withdrawal of rebates on export garments and problem with logistic and road condition.
System can change through business process re-engineering or automation have not been
considered as a solution, many industrialist relay on traditional approaches or follow their
competition rather than invest in research and development.

How automation can help

Automation less depend on skilled labor, reduce expenses on lighting, transport, meal, HRM and
other facilities, change time .cost reduced in cutting and packing facilities.

Larg scale of garments industry own lot of automated machineries imported from Japan of
Germany at high cost of capital. automation industry now come out with low cost technology.
