Introduction
In this written assessment about the data gathered, the filter used based on ICD-10-Ca and CCI
codes are the following:
Code Remarks Other Information
^^.NK.^^ Small Intestine (Ileum) This is for Colonoscopy intervention
on Digestive Tract.
^^.NM.^^ Large Intestine (Colon) This is for Colonoscopy intervention
on Digestive Tract.
^^.NQ.^^ Rectum This is for Colonoscopy intervention
on Digestive Tract.
2.^^.71 With Biopsy Any Digestive Tract Intervention
2.^^.70 Without Biopsy (Inspection only) Any Digestive Tract Intervention
C18 Malignant Neoplasm Diagnosis
D12 Benign Neoplasm Diagnosis
K50 IBD (Crohn’s Disease) Diagnosis
K51 IBD (Ulcerative Colitis) Diagnosis
The codes are based on the Canadian Coding Standard for version 2018. To filter the selection,
each of the code are filtered accordingly on day surgery and acute care sheets respectively. All of the
entry then are gathered together to form a roaster of information based on the criteria given.
All of the entries on the table prepared on excel file are patients who had a colonoscopy.
According to National Cancer Institute website, Colonoscopy is examination of the inside of the colon
using a colonscope, inserted into the rectum. Hence all of the intervention are narrowed down based on
this definition. The procedures can be done not only in examining Large Intestine, but also the Small
Intestine up to the area of Ileum, and the Rectum.
For the classification of diseases, Inflammatory Bowel Disease can be classified into two.
According to NHS website, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a term mainly used to describe two
conditions: ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Thus, in filtering the data, this is the consideration has
been employed.
Analyzing the Data
This is the summary of all the data of Colonoscopy.
Diagnosis per Diseases
Malignant Neoplasm 52
Benign Neoplasm 1,444
IBD - Crohn's 47
IBD - Ulcerative Colitis 106

2017 813
The data shows specific movement in the numbers of the Colonoscopy. To show the data more
clearly, graphs will be presented below:

The graph indicates that the data for volume of Day Surgery per Fiscal Year. FY 2016 has an
unprecedented numbers of day surgery for colonoscopy. It is followed by 2015 and 2017. Meanwhile, FY
2013 has a very low number for the said treatment. This can indicate many interpretations, but perhaps
most relevant is there are increase in the patient for 2016 for colonoscopy. Further data are need to
corroborate any conclusion for the huge number of patients in 2017.

On the other hand, acute care numbers have an interesting result. Though similarly, FY 2016 is
the highest year in terms of the patient who had the medical care, FY 2015 is not far behind. FY 2017 is
below the median of both FYs. With this result, a conclusion can be made, FY 2016 has a high patient
care who needed colonoscopy, both day surgery and acute patient care. FY 2015, being the second, has
an interesting result. In acute patient care it is not far from the first while on the day surgery the
difference is huge.
Classification based on the Intervention

Biopsy Without Biopsy

On the procedure conducted, there is huge dissimilarity with the result. Procedure with Biopsy
accounts to almost 75%. While above 25% is accounted for procedure without Biopsy.
Diagnosis per Diseases
Malignant Neoplasm Benign Neoplasm IBD - Crohn's
IBD - Ulcerative Colitis Others
The diagnosis for the procedure also gave an interesting result. Out of 4,961 cases, almost 60%
accounts for other diseases except for Malignant Neoplasm, Benign Neoplasm, and Inflammatory Bowel
Movement (Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis). Benign Neoplasm accounts for 1,330 cases. While
Inflammatory Bowel Movement and Malignant Neoplasm accounts for less than 200 cases.
