Activity 1
Directions. Read carefully the story blow then answer the questions below.

One morning, Jizela was playing a game that is similarly like a tag in their sala. Meanwhile, Jemaica got
a marker in her room and started to draw a hopscotch game on one corner of the house. When Jemaica finished
the hopscotch, she started to play with it while Jizela looked at her. Merely by observing Jemaica, Jizela learned
to play the game.
So, Jizela picked up the piece of marker and began to write the numbers 1 to 8 and their corresponding
number words in Filipino and English on Jemaica’s hopscotch game.
Then Jizela picked up a stone, threw it on number one, and began to play. As she jumped, she
pronounced each number in Filipino very carefully. When she was done, she nudged Jemaica to play.
Jemaica threw her stone on one and began to hop. As she hopped into each square, she said the number in
Filipino.
When she was finished, Jizela cried, “Wow perfect!”
Jemaica began to play again, but this time, she said the numbers in Filipino as she jumped. She was very
careful in pronouncing them.
Jizela played next, saying the numbers in English. When they had learned to pronounce the words
perfectly, they played a real game. As each hopped from square to square, Jemaica said the words in Filipino,
Jizela said them in English. Jizela won, but Jemaica did not mind. What she thought was they found a new way
to learn words despite the lockdown they experienced.
The two girls did not forget to observe proper hygiene after playing. They washed their hands
thoroughly with soap and apply alcohol afterwards to keep themselves away from COVID 19.
Throughout the community quarantine, Jemaica worked very hard to learn more Filipino words. On the other
hand, Jizela, having found that learning English can be fun, worked even harder.
By a month time, Jemaica and Jizela have learned new words by playing hopscotch. Their words were
sometimes in English and sometimes in Filipino.
