PART I: INFORMATION SHEET

INTRODUCTION
Presently, we are enrolled at the Adventist University of the Philippines. We are taking Bachelor of
Music in Music Education and currently doing a research study entitled “Challenges Experienced by
Music Majors Voice Students During the Covid-19 Pandemic and How They Shifted to New Normal in
Their Performances.” In this regard, we are inviting you as one of our respondents who could be of great
help in the completion of this research study.

PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH


It is believed that the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected the musicians (Nusseck, M. & Spahn, C.,
2021). The pandemic has affected the aspects of teaching quality and learning outcomes. This study
aims to find out the challenges of the music major voice students with their performance in the midst of
pandemic and discover how they shifted to new normal in their performances.

TYPE OF RESEARCH INTERVENTION


Qualitative research aims to study things in their natural setting to make sense of a phenomenon in
terms of meanings people bring to them. It does not entail any type of intervention or method of
manipulating the environment being studied. However, this study will involve an in-depth interview with
the participants.

PARTICIPANT SELECTION
The chosen participants are eight Music Majors specifically voice students.

VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION
Participating in this study is entirely voluntary. It is your decision to whether to participate or not.

PROCEDURES
The researchers will ask permission to the selected participants to do the interview. They will then give
them the informed consent. The researchers will solicit the participant’s consent to be part of the study.
The researchers will schedule a date for the interview. Upon the online interview, the researchers will
explain the process of the interview, it will be recorded verbatim and transcribed for the purposes of
data gathering and the accuracy of the analysis. The participants are very much welcome to state their
emotions, opinions, doubts and wide radius of ideas in responding to the questions.
DURATION
The study started from November 2021 – present. Interview will last for 2 weeks.

RISKS
There are no possible risks related to this research.

BENEFITS
This study gives the affected (by the pandemic) generation a new breakthrough in the field of online
music lessons.
The result of the study will be beneficial to the following:
● Voice Students. The findings of the study may be of assistance to voice students who are trying
to adjust to voice lessons in the midst of a pandemic.
● Applied (Voice, Piano, Violin, etc.) Teachers. The findings will give the teachers an alternative
solution on how to handle their performing students.
● Accompanists. The findings of the study can give an idea to the accompanists on how they will
adjust to their soloist virtually in this pandemic time.
● Music Majors. The findings of the study will be utilized as their reference for further studies in
larger scope and with additional variables.

REIMBURSEMENTS
No fees will be involved both in the participants and researchers.

CONFIDENTIALITY
Information of the participants in this research will be kept confidential. Information about the
participants that will be collected during the research will be filed and only the researchers involved in
the study will be able to view the data gathered.

SHARING THE RESULTS


The results of the study will be shared with selected panel members from the faculty of College of Arts
and Humanities. Proper clearance must be obtained from Adventist University of the Philippines, if
publications are necessary. No confidential information will be shared, however.

RIGHT TO REFUSE OR WITHDRAW


Participating in this research study will be according to your decision. You can think about it first before
deciding.
