8 D For Shrinkage

1) A casting defect of shrinkage was observed in 25 oil pan castings for Ved Industries. 2) The root causes were identified as the pouring temperature being too high at 1390-1410°C and improper feeding of metal into the casting cavity. 3) Corrective actions taken were to decrease the pouring temperature to 1370-1390°C and increase the carbon content in the composition to 3.5%.

1 Pouring temperature is high i.e. 1390-1410C
2
D6) Corrective Action(s)

Sr. No. Corrective Action Resp. Target

Melting
1 Decrease pouring temperature by 20 C i.e maintain pouring temp between 1370-1390 C 28.06.2019
Supervisor
Melting
2 Increase C% in composition - maintain 3.50% in bath. 28.06.2019
Supervisor

D7) Implement Preventive action / Standarisation
