Information about YG

Audition Process
Right now, YG entertainment is not conducting any Global Auditions maybe due to pandemic.

But they are conducting:

DM auditions: with some age restriction and only for individuals who are living in South Korea
i.e. for Korean people.

Monthly Auditions: 1:1 AUDITIONS held every month but only 100 randomly selected
individuals can participate in the Auditions. These auditions have age restriction.

Online Auditions: You can apply anytime and from anywhere in Online Auditions, you need
have Account which you can create in YG’s audition website but you can apply once in a month

Follow YG on instagram create an account in YG google website, so you can know when and where YG is
gonna make auditions. - Walk-in applicants should bring all documents needed to the audition place. -
Download first, then send the filled form to ygglobal@ygmail.net with your picture. - Applicants under
age of 13 should bring Legal Guardian Admission to the audition place.

Ways to audition:

Before auditioning, you have to practice. Putting in hard work and effort, you will see improvement. You
can watch YouTube videos for lessons since they are free or you can take actual classes if you would like.
Also, I recommend recording yourself as the two years go by to see where you’re at in your progress.-

Choreographing your own dance is your best. Do not audition with songs and dances from YG if you’re
auditioning YG. You can audition by singing American pop song and rapping American song or Korean
song. But you have to choreograph your own dance. Do some exercises before auditioning. Your dance
can’t be easy and it has to show your flexibility and presence. You also have to show you’re a little
relaxed while dancing and show some facial expressions that match with the dance and the song you’re
dancing to. By performing like that you can show the judges that you’re a good dancer. Same as rap,
your voice have to be stable and clear, you have to be relaxed, show facial expressions, do gestures that
match with the rap you’re rapping to.
It’s definitely an advantage if you write your own music and/or lyrics since YG’s artists are known to be
good with producing and writing. But, it is just as risky. If you can’t write good lyrics, then instead of
getting plus points, you can be down voted by the judges.

Training

YG Entertainment is a good family company, but you practice constantly, even though harsh conditions,
this is a reason why many YG singers drop out of high school or college. Many YG artists work from 6AM
until 10PM, then when they ‘go to bed’ they are usually doing YG homework and practicing lines and
moves until 12PM.

YG is known to have a somewhat long trainee period. Don't expect to debut quickly unless they're about
to debut a new group - you're amazing and the missing piece of the group. YG trainees are also
separated by gender - boys and girls have different schedules for everything. They don't know what each
other look like or act like. This is to of course prevent relationships from forming. If you're a YG trainee,
expect to be worked hard. To be honest, any company will work you hard, but YG is a perfectionist and
will not debut anyone that is less than phenomenal. After you become a trainee at the end of every
month authorized mentors/people come and you have to perform in front of them with your team. The
training is very strict; there are diets, exercises and stuff like that.

The life as a trainee is known to be a difficult one with the tight schedules as a result of this some give
up on their dreams to become a kpop idol. The average training period for a trainee is 2 to 4 years. After
training for a while there's a chance that the trainee may debut. YG is very strict, once you’ve become
their trainee you have to follow rules they make or else you’ll get punished or kicked out for the agency.
For example YG has a rule that trainees are not allowed to date until three years after debut, Miyeon
from G Idle who was supposed to Pink Punk member was kicked out from the agency for dating
someone before debut. You have to take diet they make for you whether you like it or not. Don’t date or
interact with male trainees, you seniors (for example Treasure, Blackpink) unless they (the agency) ask
you to.

YG’s contract length is unknown while many website say 5 years there is a lot of backup proving that
contracts for idols are longer. Here are some restrictions for trainees. “The MCs started the discussion
by saying, “We heard there were six restrictions listed on contracts for YG. Drinking, smoking, clubbing,
driving, plastic surgery, and dating are all banned. Is that true?”

The BLACKPINK members confirmed the restrictions listed were true. The surprised MCs asked, “If it’s
that extreme, isn’t that basically living a monastic life?”
Rosé responded, “I wasn’t allowed to get a driver’s license. However, exceptions can be made if you
discuss it with the company. The restrictions are just there to tell you not to do any of those things
secretly.”

Jisoo also shared that male and female trainees at YG are kept separate. She revealed, “Even eating
times are different. At YG’s cafeteria, if the boys eat at 6 o’clock, the girls will eat at 7 o’clock.”

She continued by saying that if the male trainees are still finishing up their meals past their scheduled
time, the managers will cover them up so the female trainees cannot see them. However, Jisoo and
Rosé concluded that it’s only while training, and everything becomes okay after debut.”

Dormitory and other stuff:

The majority of k-pop trainees live close to their agencies as they spend a great deal of their day
in practice rooms. Living close means trainees don’t have to devote time to commute, and
management has an easier time looking after them. Gangnam, Cheongdam, nearby Youngdong
bridge, nearby Konkuk University, Hapjeong and nearby Hongik University are all popular
locations for Kpop trainee dorms.

There are dorms for every trainee in the company however if you’re not a foreigner and you
live pre close from YG than by all means you get to stay at home rather than living in dorms.
dorms are mostly designed for foreigners and for people that live far away from YG in Korea.
There's so separate dorm for foreign trainees. The dorms are located in Seoul (most likely near
the company/training building).

If you got selected in the first round or the online audition, they would pay for your flight
tickets if they think you are worth it. If you pass the private auditions too and sign as a trainee,
they will pay for the flight tickets to your home to pack your bags and go to Korea for training.

Next, as you are a trainee, the company might pay for your schooling (if you didn’t graduate),
they will also pay your living expenses like your food, dorms etc. They won’t pay for casual
clothes but they will pay for the clothes used in performances. So in all they pay a huge amount
for each and every trainee but you will be under a debt once the training period is over doesn’t
matter if you debut or not.

And what about training fees?

Well usually for big companies like YG, I think your training debt will be automatically paid off
from your income and sales as a group and as an artist once you debut. So for example, an
artist earned around 23 Million korean won (just an example) so the company will take away
some of that money to pay off the training debts so for example the training debt is around 10
Million won so that leaves the artist with 13 million won. Something like that. I'm not really
sure though but that's just a guess. I don't really think big companies like YG make their trainees
directly pay the training debt with their own personal financial savings. But smaller companies
most likely do make the trainees pay to train them since they are a small company so they don't
have alot of money to invest into the trainees. I'm not really sure with my answer by the way I
just wanted to share my own guesses and opinion so take it with a grain of salt- Quora user

You don’t have to pay for training as long as you debut because the money for training a person
is taken from their income. But if you don’t debut, I think you will have to pay them. – Quora
