Creatine is often misconstrued as a performance-enhancing drug

like steroids.
It is not.
Creatine is a naturally occurring substance our bodies produce in
the kidneys, liver, and pancreas from the precursor amino acids
arginine, glycine, and methionine. It’s also one of the most
researched and well understood supplements in exercise science.
Creatine participates in the chemical reactions that replenish
ATP in muscle cells and is thus a critical component of our energy
systems, particularly the systems that drive short, intense bursts of
exercise like sprinting or lifting heavy weights. The longer you can
quickly replenish ATP, the longer and harder you can work, which
leads to strength gains.
We get some creatine from food, especially red meat, but many
studies have shown conclusively that supplementing improves
performance in both men and women. Earlier concerns that creatine
can damage the kidneys have been debunked. If you’ve heard that
creatine causes water weight gain, that’s because it does draw water
into the cell, which in turn may increase protein synthesis and
glycogen storage over time—which is a good thing!
Team Fitness strongly recommends creatine supplementation for
all clients looking to get stronger and leaner. Various formulations
are available. Ask us which one is right for you and how to take it.
