Good day Dr. Barajas and classmates, today our group

were task to share, describe and give some important details
regarding THE COMPETENCIES OF A PROFESSIONAL
TEACHER and THE MODELS OF TEACHING. With these,
each of us will share to you our assigned task that we have
planned and prepared last week.
First, allow me to be the first discussant for today which is my
topic The Competencies of a Professional Teacher, which I will
discuss the communication and interpersonal skills and
organizational and planning skills.
But before that I would like to welcome you all with the quote
written by Charles Kuralt

For me these quotes help us to understand our mission to

boost the confidence of our learners and help them to grow on
what they wanted to be. Aligned with this quote is this
question? WHAT IS A COMPETENT TEACHER? Kindly share
your answer by typing in our chat box. Thanks for participating
sir and mam.
Now, we do have different answer to that, it depends on the
way we give meaning to it. And now this slide, shows the
different meaning of a competent teacher and I do believe that
each one of us have this. (Pakita slide at basahin
nakalagay. )
At this moment let me share this diagram that explains the
personality competencies of the teacher.
(BASAHIN ANG NASA SLIDE)
Remember these 4 competencies which will help us more to be
competent in the field of teaching.
2

Now let’s go over to the next slide, Let’s Go Deeper

With this picture entitled communication and interpersonal skills
one of the teaching competencies of being a professional
teacher, the teacher herself builds a good connection to her
learners. Why? Because as you can see the learners enjoyed
their class to her, there is no pressure with the teacher and the
learner. Being open minded and kind to our learners helps us to
build a good relationship with them. We also not focusing here
on the learners we can also be a good communicator and
listener to our colleagues and other people as well.
Remember a good communication will unite everybody.
Next and last part of my assigned task is the
competencies of a professional teacher when it comes to
organization and planning. For me this is very vital in teaching
field. Why? Because as a teacher practicing in an orderly
mannered the things that you wanted to do in the class, the
lesson, the classroom, the parents, the grades, and most
especially your learners are a job that requires consistency for
everybody to go with the flow in an ordered manner. After that
when you organized remember you plan. Planning things
before entering the school and after coming to school is one of
the teachers must do. It is because without planning everything
will not be in ordered. Problems will arise. Example if you don’t
plan your lesson for the day and did not have the lesson plan
you can’t teach properly why? Because the lesson plan is the
guide and serves as the Bible of the teacher without it there will
be no systematic and organized teaching.
And that will be all for my talk, thank you for listening
and now let’s proceed to Sir Michael Flores to discuss The
Competencies of the Professional teacher in classroom
management and facilitation engagement. Take it away sir…

Good day once again, my assigned topic for the models of

teaching is the MARZANO MODEL
Marzano models have four dimensions of professional practice
First domain is the DOMAIN 1 which is the
Classroom and strategies behavior, which talk about the
segments involving the ROUTINE EVENTS, ADDRESSING
CONTENT, SEGMENTS ENACTED ON THE SPOT.
DOMAIN 2 Planning and Preparation which talks about the
three categories such as planning and preparing for
lessons and units, planning, and preparing for use of
materials and technology and lastly planning and
preparing for special needs of students.
DOMAIN 3 – which is reflecting on teaching
The domain three have 2 categories which are evaluating
personal performance and developing and implementing a
professional growth and development plan.
And lastly the domain 4 which is professionalism and
collegiality which have 3 categories such as promoting
positive environment, promoting exchange of ideas and
strategies, and lastly promoting district and school
development.
To further understand each of the domain let’s proceed to
its details
DOMAIN 1 Classroom Strategies and Behavior this includes
the routines or practices that we should let our learners practice
the activities that we can guide them for them to make it a habit
are the following;
 Entering/Exiting the classroom.
 Turning in assignments & late work.
4

Attendance/Absent/Tardy procedures.
 Lunch and/or Recess.
 Bell-work/Do Now/Entry Task.
 Finishing work early.
 Use of classroom library.
 Independent work time – asking for help.

Usually, these routines are being mentioned during the

orientation of the class or their first day. Remember their
behavior depends on the way we started to see them, usually
the learners need repetition esp. the primary level and
modelling too as one of the strategies that will help you and the
learners achieve the domain 1 successful.
Next ADDRESSING CONTENT, which explains the way we
introduce the concept to the learners in a systematic way. First
we can insert motivation, pre-lection or activating their prior-
knowledge regarding the subject matter, asking them HOT
questions or challenging questions that develops their Higher
Ordered Thinking Skills and accepting their answers. After that
insert the presentation of the lesson in applying strategies that
will boost their interest to answer. Followed by an open
discussion and doing activities related to the content. After that
don’t forget to go back to check whether their prior knowledge
was correct based on the discussions made. With these we can
absolutely know and assess the success of our interaction with
the learners if it is effective or not. Lastly, SEGMENTS
ENACTED ON THE SPOT where it explains the connection of
the learners and the teachers when it comes to discussion.
Engagement and enjoyment of the learners in the lesson helps
them to become active in the class. Their interest to learn when
the flow of the discussion is on the orderly mannered and very
open, they usually share their ideas freely. With these the lively
and fun environment is visible and successful.
Now let’s go over with the DOMAIN 2 the Planning and
preparing
5

- This domain includes the preparation of the lessons and

units for example the budget of work, syllabus and course
outline of the lesson based on the standards. Teachers
and coordinators plan ahead of time, the flow of the
lessons that they will teach to the learners for the entire
school year which will help them achieve their goals. Next
is the use of materials and technology we all know that
this generation are very fond of the technology. Being a
teacher, we must have a basic knowledge and improve
ourselves when it comes to technology. Why? So that we
can be up to date to the latest trend and style in teaching
as well as we go with the flow in our learners. Remember
technology will help us lessen some of the manual things
that we do in preparing the materials in teaching aside
from that it will help us work in time. Using interactive
games with used of technology will aroused the interest of
our learners. Lastly, the planning and preparing for special
needs of the students this includes the differentiated
activities that suited to their level of interest inserting the
multiple intelligences of our learners. Making an
enrichment for the learners who are at risk so that they
can follow their classmates who are ahead of them and
the enhancement for the learners that were gifted with
high knowledge which will help them to become more
independent and of course the needs of the students who
come from home environments that offer little support
must be the top priority why? Because they need us, for
them not to stop in schooling instead helping them to
become eager in attending the school especially with the
school embracing them or welcoming them
wholeheartedly.
The Domain 3 which is REFLECTING ON TEACHING its
domain help the teacher to reflects on her strength and
weaknesses when it comes to his/her applied teaching
6

strategies and method in teaching. It is in the last part of

teaching that includes the remarks section wherein you
questioned yourselves if my learners learned from me or not?
How many needs to remediate and how many passed. What
are the things that made them passed or needs to remediate.
These questions help me to improve more in achieving the
effectiveness of my specific pedagogical strategies and
behaviors applied in different categories of the learners. Then
follows the Developing and implementing a professional growth
and development plan. This I might say CAN BE connected
under on what we called the individual development plan that
we can see in the form of what they called the Individual
Performance commitment and review form or IPCRF of the
teacher in which his/her superior monitoring his/her progress in
teaching. It is also helping the teacher to undergo professional
development to enhanced more his/her skills in teaching.
Based on his/her strength and weaknesses the needed help of
the superior or head will help the teacher improves more and
achieved his/her needs. IPCRF or Individual Performance
Commitment and Review Form (IPCRF) is an assessment tool
used to rate government employees for their year’s
accomplishments. What is the purpose of Ipcrf for teachers?
It provides a venue for agreement on standards of performance and
behaviors which lead to professional and personal growth in the
organization.
- FOR EXAMPLE HERE IN OUR COUNTRY
7

Lastly, the DOMAIN 4 that talks about the COLLEGIALITY

AND PROFESSIONALISM
These includes promoting positive environment wherein the
teacher has a harmonious relationship with his/her colleagues,
students, and parents as well.
The environment that the teacher must create is an
environment that has a great connection with them. It is not just
the overall makeup and setting of the classroom itself that is
important but creating an environment that is judgment free,
accepting, thought provoking, and empowering is extremely
important. Next is promoting exchange of ideas and
strategies wherein mentoring and sharing of expertise and
ideas on the needed interest of the teachers and colleagues,
parents and teachers as well is aligned with this domain. It
builds enthusiasm to each and everyone.
Sharing their expertise means having new conversations that
open what they have learnt to a new perspective, helping them
and others to grow. These can be connected to LAC SESSION
of the teacher or what we called Learning Action Cell, students’
remediation and in parents in the parent and teacher
association or PTA that exchanging ideas are freely that will
help each other in improving oneself.
Lastly is Promoting District and School development this
includes adhering to district rules and procedures of the school
wherein we can relate this to the GENERAL ASSEMBLY of the
school wherein discussing the school’s rules and procedures
must follow. Involvement of community members in schools
can improve the overall quality of education that students
receive. Rules and regulations, as mentioned, are put in
place to provide order and standards in the school, and any
breach can create an imbalance. Discipline teaches
8

accountability and responsibility in students, as well as on

teachers who may not be behaving in ways that adhere to the
school's policies. And the last part the participating in district
and school initiatives wherein Participating in extracurricular
activities builds teamwork, communication, relationships,
and a sense of belonging, all of which help students to
develop socially and be successful in school. Participation in
extracurricular activities demonstrates the importance of
community involvement. Through School District Initiatives,
the Learning Community provides extra support to extend the
efforts of individual districts to meet student needs. Learning
Community support for District Initiatives includes
independent evaluation to assure continuous improvement.
With these the MARZANO’s MODEL OF EFFECTIVE
TEACHING believes that teachers who set goals and check
for understanding will be effective.
And that’s ended my report thank you for listening.
